Watch The FIFA Women’s World Cup Game For Free Friday Night At Oculus Plaza
This Friday at 9PM, the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is giving New York City-based football fans a treat!
For the first time, the authority will be broadcasting the Women’s USA vs. Vietnam FIFA World Cup game on a large screen on the Oculus Plaza. The free public viewing will be located on the north side of the Oculus, near the flagpoles. The Oculus Beer Garden will be open for guests to purchase beverages and light bites until 11 p.m.
Soccer is the world’s biggest sport, but lately, NYC has been getting more and more involved in the sport!
Earlier this year, we reported that NYNJ will be one of 16 host cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico to host World Cup soccer games in 2026. We’re super excited to be a host city and to see how the city will activate for the occasion!
New York City got its first official soccer team in 2013, and now, almost nine years later, the New York City F.C. (Football Club) will finally get its own home stadium in Queens!
The stadium was initially set to be built in The Bronx, not too far from where the team plays now (Yankee Stadium), but this changed in November of last year when NYC Mayor Adams announced that the 25,000-capacity venue was now set to be built in the Willets Point neighborhood of Queens.
The project will still be privately funded and will also include over 40,000-square-feet of public open space, a hotel, and retail shops that will create new jobs for community residents.
