This Study Found The Best NYC Neighborhoods For Coffee Lovers

To make it through a day in NYC you need to be properly caffeinated, but the amount of coffee shops sprinkled around the city can make it feel a bit impossible to find that cup of joe that’s a) actually good and b) actually gives you that jolt of caffeine (and please, please don’t just make Starbucks or Dunkin your go-to).

Well, RentHop is swooping in to save the day and ensure we stay properly caffeinated as they found the best NYC neighborhoods for coffee lovers.

To clarify, the real estate site also had renters in mind, so they also considered the median two-bedroom rent in each neighborhood and incorporated that into their coffee score. Because, obviously, you won’t be sipping on any cups of joe if your entire paycheck is going to rent!

RentHop collected data on over 100 coffee shops in New York City–including their name, business type, location, and ratings–and factored in rent affordability in each neighborhood they looked at.

Their findings? Apparently, Bushwick (West) is the best neighborhood for coffee lovers! The neighborhood received a score of 73.35 and aggregates 4.59 coffee shops per square mile, with the median two-bedroom rent currently priced at $3,100.

The study writes:

Western Bushwick has undergone major changes in recent years with multi-family housing developments and commercial corridors. The growth brought in more residents and, therefore, more coffee shops. The Bushwick (West) coffee shops average a rating of 4.65 out of 5 on Google Maps. Meanwhile, we observed a stark difference between the west and east parts of Bushwick. Eastern Bushwick claims the #45 place in our rankings with only 1.11 coffee shops per square mile.

Coming in second place is the East Village, where the median two-bedroom rent is higher than many outer-borough neighborhoods, at $4,495 per month, but there are 6 coffee shops (with an average rating of 4.54) per square mile, the second most in Manhattan behind Greenwich Village.

As for Queens, Astoria was the highest-ranking neighborhood in this borough, coming in at #6, with a total score of 60.64, 2.33 coffee shops per square mile, and a median two-bedroom rent of $3,000.

The Bronx first appeared on the list at the #15 spot, where data showed that Allerton received a total score of 54.61, with a median two-bedroom rent of $2,650 and only 0.99 coffee shops per square mile.

Staten Island did not make it onto the list.
