This Quirky Krampus-Inspired Holiday Market Swaps Tradition For Gothic Goods
If you’re searching for a holiday market in NYC with festive decor, chocolatey sweets, and sparkly trinkets, turn back now.
The Morbid Anatomy Krampus Holiday Market in Industry City, Brooklyn, is a Krampus-inspired shopping experience that turns the typical Christmas outing on its head. Instead of plush red stockings and glass ornaments, shoppers will be able to peruse dark art, vintage books, antiques, taxidermy pieces, and plenty of other goods with a gothic vibe.
And for those who are unfamiliar with Krampus, the fictional character with wicked claws has German origins and works in tandem with Saint Nick to punish children who’ve misbehaved. (A good incentive for little ones to land on Santa’s nice list.) Alpine countries celebrate all things Krampus by dressing up as the devil and scaring kiddos in the process — hence the creepy, goth vibes.
Created by Morbid Anatomy, which began as a blog and morphed into exhibitions, a library, and overall, a community, is the brains behind the atypical celebration, and it’s serving up some creative entertainment options. In addition to shopping, you can take your own selfie with Krampus (yikes!), sip on sweet cocktails from Frying Pan Brooklyn, including brandy-spiked mulled wine, jam out to spooky holiday tunes, and snag limited-edition Krampus tattoos White Ghost Studio, to name a few offerings.
