These 4 NYC Bars Were Named Among The World’s 50 Best
We’re over here feeling like we’re suffering from a case of déjà vu–earlier this month World’s 50 Best released their Best Bars 51-100 list and four New York City bars made the cut…but that’s not all! When looking at the World’s 50 Best Bars 1-50 list, four more New York City bars made the cut! Though when NYC’s bar scene is the way it is, what with its unique bars exuding quirky vibes, tiki bars for soaking up tropical vibes, hidden bars with secret entrances, and more, we’re never surprised when the city finds its way onto a best bars list (…or a best restaurants list for that matter!)
Now in its 16th edition, the World’s 50 Best Bars awards unite the global bar community in recognition of the bartenders, bar owners, and brands at the forefront of the international cocktail scene. The 2024 World’s 50 Best Bars list features bars from 28 cities with 16 new entries spread across Bangkok, Bogotá, Guadalajara, Hong Kong, Lima, Melbourne, Mexico City, Milan, New York, Paris, São Paulo, Singapore, and Tokyo.
New York City leads the Americas with four of its bars finding their way onto the list:
Double Chicken Please – No.14
Lower East Side Double Chicken Please is split into two distinctive areas: Free Range, a modern take on the LES’ traditional soda taps, and The Coop, a lounge where culinary cocktails are the stars. The most creative cocktails are served here, such as the Cold Pizza which blends tequila, parmigiano reggiano cheese, burnt toast, tomato, basil, honey, and egg white, alongside a diverse array of shareable dishes. The space
Double Chicken Please also ranked number seven on the North America’s 50 Best Bars list, and bartender GN Chan was named the World’s Best Bartender in 2023.
115 Allen St.
Overstory – No.15
Overstory is a contemporary cocktail bar situated 64 floors above the ground in the Financial District, offering guests sweeping views of New York City. Walking in you’ll be greeted by moody, intimate vibes where you can grab a seat on the plush furniture and order a minimal but elegant cocktail such as the 212, made with whiskey, vermouth, cocoa nib, amaro, and black pear.
Overstory also ranked number three on the North America’s 50 Best Bars list.
Martiny’s – No.24
Martiny’s is a three-floor Japanese-style cocktail lounge housed in a former 1800s carriage house. Here, Takuma Watanabe has mastered the art of signature cocktails, all of which are influenced by his homeland. These cocktails include Japanese ingredients like Nikka whisky and matcha, so you know they’re full of flavor in the best way possible!
Martiny’s also ranked number four on the North America’s 50 Best Bars list.
Superbueno – No.27
A vibrant ode to Mexican-American culture, East Village bar Superbueno is an elevated cantina from industry veteran Ignacio “Nacho” Jimenez and Greg Boehm (Katana Kitten, Mace). The cocktail program blends the bold flavors of Mexico with signature New York flare through drinks like mole negronis, mushroom margaritas, and mango martinis as salsa and reggaeton bump through the bar’s speakers.
Beyond making it to the World’s 50 Best Bars 1-50 list, Superbueno was also named London Essence Best New Opening as the bar that enters the list in the highest position of any that have opened during the voting period. Earlier this year it was also awarded the Disaronno Highest New Entry, The Best Bar in Northeast USA 2024, and was voted the second best bar in North America.
Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Bars, stated:
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to each and every bar on this year’s list, which once again highlights the incredible diversity of the global bar sector. We hope that this year’s list continues to operate as a beacon for cocktail lovers the world over.
