The Weather In NYC Might Finally Be Getting Colder, But Now There’s A Red Flag Warning

The weather in NYC has been unseasonably warm, In fact, it was one of the driest Octobers on record and the warmest Halloween since 1946. Even though we’re due for a typical November chill, we now have red flag warnings to contend with.

Temperatures and humidity dipped considerably on Friday, November 8th, from a nearly 80-degree week, but meteorologists revealed that the tristate area is under red flag warnings after only  0.01 inch of rainfall last month — a drought that kickstarted in September.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, every county within the tristate area is now under at least moderate drought conditions, and NYC issued a drought watch is early November.

“We encourage all New Yorkers to take this drought watch seriously and conserve water where you can. While water conservation is always essential, it is particularly crucial during extended dry periods, such as those experienced in New York state throughout this fall,” said Chief of Staff and Extreme Weather Coordinator Camille Joseph Varlack.

New Yorkers should be limiting their time in the shower, turning off faucets when they’re not in use, and fixing leaks in a timely manner, among other efforts.

As far as the temperature goes, we’re expected to see Saturday and Sunday in the mid to low 50s, according to the Weather Channel’s 10-day forecast. Things will stay in the 50s next week, and perhaps we could potentially see showers on Thursday, November 14th, though we’ll need a considerable amount of precipitation before we break this dry spell.

Be cautious with your water usage this weekend, and as always, stay safe.
