The Met Acquires Artist Agnes Northrop’s Tiffany Glass Window, And It’s A Floral Fantasy

For some eye candy and an Instagram-worthy moment — to say the least — artist Agnes Northrop’s botanical beauty will do the trick.

While exploring the Met, one of the best museums in NYC, be sure to stop by the American Wing (which is celebrating its 100th year) for a glimpse at her garden landscape window, a new addition to the attraction’s ever-growing collection. Commissioned in 1912, the Tiffany glass window is filled with an assortment of lush greens, light pinks and periwinkles, and a stunning pale-blue sky. It’s a three-part piece that was initially intended for a private home, but has since made its way into the iconic locale, and museum-goers are certainly grateful.

According to the Met, “Northrop expertly blended textures and colors to bring the scene to life,” but that’s an understatement.

To go exhibit-hopping with out snagging a glance would be doing yourself a disservice — and comments on Instagram are proof. “Must be seen in person, the quality of the actual glass is from another planet,” one Instagram user wrote. Another chimed in with, “Mesmerized in person – what a treat!”

If you’re looking for another floral fix with a fall twist — ideal for those autumn bucket lists — the American Wing also houses a gorgeous window, attributed to Northrop, that brings fall foliage to life in glass form. No paint was involved — just glass that was wrinkled in its molten state. Stunning, when you think about it.

While you’re at it, be sure to have a look at the best exhibits in NYC right now after making your way to The Met. What’s better than spending a leisurely afternoon admiring art? (We’ll wait.)
