The Coziest Cities In The World Have Been Revealed, And NYC Demands A Recount

AllClear Travel Insurance has rounded up the coziest cities in the world, but we’re not entirely satisfied with NYC’s standing.

Sure, we might be one of the most congested cities in the world, and at time’s we’ve been considered one of the rattiest cities in the U.S., but we’ve also been crowned the third best city in the world this year, and that’s nothing to shake a stick at.

Yes, the five boroughs are expansive and there’s people everywhere you turn, but we can list plenty of reasons why our metropolis also has a cushy charm.

The 2024 list of coziest cities in the world

Curious about the rankings? According to AllClear, these are the top 20 coziest cities around the globe:

  1. Brussels, Belgium
  2. Paris, France
  3. Geneva, Switzerland
  4. Copenhagen, Denmark
  5. Lisbon, Portugal
  6. Barcelona, Spain
  7. Athens, Greece
  8. Victoria, Canada
  9. Bath, United Kingdom
  10. Dublin, Ireland
  11. Vancouver, Canada
  12. San Francisco, U.S.A
  13. Boston, U.S.A.
  14. Florence, Italy
  15. Zurich, Switzerland
  16. Amsterdam, Netherlands
  17. Chicago, U.S.A.
  18. Salzburg, Austria
  19. Seoul, South Korea
  20. New York City, U.S.A.

The travel insurance company did a deep dive into the definition of cozy — “giving a feeling of comfort, warmth and relaxation” — and conducted their research from there. Per the press release, “This led [AllClear] to looking at the number of cafes, bookstores, cinemas, theatres and museums per square mile in each location, with all of these offering up comfort and relaxation away from the elements.”

All of the best museums in NYC are not only wonderful places to spend an afternoon getting lost in creativity, but they’re pieces of history. Just look at the Met! And near those museums are ample coffee shops, bookstores, and mom and pop businesses — yes, in addition to the glitz and glam — that give NYC a quaint feeling.

Perhaps the study should have considered the brownstones in Brooklyn Heights, the cobblestones in the Sea Port, the fall foliage in Central Park, and the winter wonderland that is Christmas in NYC.

So, what do you think? Has NYC been rated accurately? Allow us to grab our sweaters and sip a cup of coffee while analyzing the data. You can find the study in full and complain or praise its results on the AllClear website.
