Named after Jonas Bronck, a farmer and sea captain from Sweden, features neighborhoods (Riverdale, Wakefield and City Island) that exemplify the original beauty and suburban foundations that was home to historic figures of significance Edgar Allen Poe (Poe Cottage), The Motts (Mott Haven), The Pells (Pelham Bay Park), The Colgates (Colgate-Palmolive)and the Van Cortlandts (Van Cortlandt Park). Each neighborhood has its own identity, culture and historical significance.

Mott Haven Historic Walk

In 1639, Jonas Bronck settled in this area with the idea of creating farmland outside of colonial New York. Within 4 years, the land was in the possession of the Morris family who assisted with the developments over the next 2 centuries.
