When it comes top-notch Mexican food in the country, New York often gets unfairly snubbed for its sunnier cousin city in the West Coast. Although it might be true that L.A.’s Mexican cultural presence is bigger and more evident than it is here, you would be remiss to dismiss the bustling Mexican culinary scene across the five boroughs.
In an effort to give New York City Mexican food the love and attention it deserves, Paulina Montiel and Noe Zepeda, two friends who run Migo Events, are throwing New York’s first ever Mexican Restaurant Week, which will showcase dozens of carefully selected Mexican restaurants across the city that range from higher end, sit down spots to more casual mom and pop joints.
From October 7 to 13, more than 20 Mexican eateries across Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Queens will take part in Mexican Restaurant Week, and all participating restaurants will offer special multi-course packages for $45 or less.
Notable participants include Mexi BK, a spot inspired by Mexico City and known for its beloved tuna tartare tostada and a popular cocktail called El Mexi; King of Taco, a taco truck founded in Jackson Heights that has since garnered a cult following; Family’s Cafe in the Bronx, a beloved family owned restaurant; and Meli’s Taqueria in East Harlem, which specializes in fare from Puebla.
Organizers Montiel and Zepeda are no strangers to the culture: Migo Events, a party we wrote about earlier this year, centers around the New York Mexican community. They duo also got some input from Jolay Silva, an influencer who uses her platform to highlight Latin restaurants across New York City.

“Our mission was to close the gap between niche artisanal restaurants and your mom and pop shop, each delicious but the price point different,” Montiel tells Time Out. “As we build Migo Events, we continue with the idea of Mexicans working together to build a community and support one another. It does not matter if it’s art, events, or food, Mexicans we deserve to be seen.”

What is the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze?
The Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze is a spectacular Halloween walking trail that features over 7,000 hand-carved, illuminated pumpkins assorted into installations. This event transforms the historic landscapes of Van Cortlandt Manor and Old Bethpage Village into a mesmerizing display of glowing sculptures, including dinosaurs, trains, and even a pumpkin ferris wheel.
Some of the most popular attractions that visitors love include the dazzling Pumpkin Planetarium which pulsates to a spooky soundtrack, a massive 24-foot spider web made of pumpkins, an incredible PumpkinZee Bridge which you can actually walk on, and so much more.
Alongside the half mile illunimated pumpkin trail, the Blaze also features fall-themed sweets and snacks at Café Blaze and souvenirs at the Blaze Boo-tique!

This year’s Blaze takes place at 2 locations: Van Cortlandt Manor in Croton-on-Hudson, New York (Blaze: Hudson Valley) and Old Bethpage Village Restoration in Long Island (Blaze: Long Island).

What’s new at the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze this year?
Both locations are welcoming some new attractions for 2024, especially Blaze: Hudson Valley who’s marking their 20th anniversary!
New this year to Hudson Valley’s rendition include a giant birthday cake and Celebration Arch to mark the milestone, a VIP speakeasy with exclusive drinks and treats called The Gourd & Goblet Tavern, and a new Kraken rising from the Croton River.
The Blaze: Long Island’s new 2024 attractions include a pumpkin Long Island Hall of Fame, a Day of the Dead tribute, a working Ferris wheel, and a celebration arch!

How to get tickets for the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze
Tickets for the Blaze at both locations are available online, starting now. Prices for both Blaze: Hudson Valley and Blaze: Long Island start at $32/adult (with some $20 tickets available on weekdays after 8 pm) and children’s tickets costing $10. Visitors can also buy FLEX tickets for a higher price, which includes anytime admission and a complimentary drink and donut.

You must purchase your Blaze tickets online, as no tickets are sold on-site
Tickets are non-refundable, so figure out which date works best before you purchase

Funny enough, our neighbors (dare we say enemies) over in Jersey somehow managed to rank as the third happiest state in the nation. Dubbed Brooklyn Pop, the museumexplores Brooklyn’s role as a cultural epicenter and its profound influence on popular culture. Visitors will journey through an 11,000-square-foot narrative that is at one a play, a movie, and an art installation, with each detail meticulously crafted to immerse the audience in the spirit of Brooklyn. Among the art installations are replicas of NYC subway cars and stations accompanied by a unique blend of play, film, artifacts, audio, and visual elements.
