Scream into the unknown for a moment of catharsis at House of Yes this weekend

Scream into the unknown for a moment of catharsis at House of Yes this weekend

The election is finally over—which means we can all take a moment to cathartically let go of all the stress and anxiety we’ve been feeling.

If, for some reason, you’ve been feeling the urge to scream into the unknown, we suggest you turn your attention to House of Yes, the iconic warehouse venue in Bushwick that prides itself on its culture of inclusivity.

The destination is offering New Yorkers the chance to just let it all out for this weeend.

RECOMMENDED: This pop-up mobile stand connects New Yorkers with grandmas all over the world to talk about life

On X, the venue explained how the screaming session will work.

“Every night this weekend (thu/fri/sat) we will be having a Communal Cathartic Scream at the club at midnight,” wrote the business. “We will stop the music, count off, and scream together. Screaming into the void is better when you do it with friends.”

It turns out that House of Yes is actually onto something: screaming can be a way of releasing difficult emotions, creating a sense of community (if you do it with others) and helping people tap into their inner strength, according the BBC.

However, experts warn that scream therapies like this one should be paired with psychotherapy and other scientifically proven methods of regulating your emotions.

If you were planning to attend one of the screaming sessions this weekend, you might as well go on a night that resonates: tonight (Thursday), the venue is hosting a “pop princess” night playing hits by your favorite divas; Friday you can dance to disco and electronic music spun by the iconic New York DJ Eli Escobar; and, on Saturday, DJs Caleesi & Sarah Kreis and Berlin-based DJ Kotoe will be on the decks. You can get tickets to any of those events here

If screaming is not your thing, here are 9 other ways you can relax in the post-election madness

Meet NYC’s New Hockey Team: The New York Sirens

New York hockey fans, get ready! The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) has officially unveiled its team uniforms and logos for the six original teams, and the New York Sirens are ready to make a statement. This announcement comes just days after another women’s professional league was announced as New York will join the Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL).

The Sirens’ design is grabbing attention in the Big Apple. With bold colors and a nod to New York’s iconic energy, the Sirens’ look will be a fan favorite as they prepare for the season opener on November 30.

What do the new New York Sirens uniforms look like?

The New York Sirens jersey has a unique blend of Liberty green and bright yellow-orange accents, reminiscent of New York’s unmistakable vibrance. The color scheme brings a retro feel with a modern twist.

It pays homage to the city’s history while signaling a fresh start for women’s hockey. The Sirens’ logo, with its “vibration” effect, reflects the pulse of the city, dynamic, high-energy, and ready for action. Also, as the only PWHL team representing New York, the Sirens will bring hometown pride to every game.

Where to watch the Sirens in NYC

The New York Sirens will play all their home games at the Prudential Center, home of the NHL’s New Jersey Devils. Known for their loyalty, New Yorkers have a new way to share in the excitement with the Sirens.

You will be able to catch Sirens games and all PWHL games on the league’s YouTube channel. Expect to see Sirens’ jerseys all over the city, much as they did with the Liberty and their first WNBA championship.

You can order a throwback TV dinner at Manhattan’s latest diner

You can order a throwback TV dinner at Manhattan's latest diner

I’ve had a few TV dinners in my day. During my teenage years, it was a common ritual to pull out a frozen tray of Stouffer’s mac and cheese, puncture the plastic sheeting to death and throw it in the microwave until it was cooked to the temperature of molten lava hot. And while at the time it was satisfiable, looking back, I wouldn’t exactly call it good. Manhattan’s latest diner is giving the TV dinner the revamp it so desperately needs plus more nostalgic eats.

Next Tuesday, November 12, B&L Diner (1262 Broadway) will open its doors in Herald Square. Behind it all is cookbook author, restaurateur and Top Chef Masters and Iron Chef America alum, chef Franklin Becker. Going for a diner that is less greasy spoon, and more chef-driven, Becker cooks up classic fare while utilizing what’s fresh and in season.

Like a typical diner, you can find a laundry list of items here, from Gyro Tacos and B&L Foot Long Hot Dog to a riff on a Shake ‘n Bake. Seafood you can trust is also on offer, found in the Pot of Bangs Island Mussels. But it is the TV Dinner that is sure to bring the nostalgic feels. Served on a metal tray, the portioned meal includes Turkey and Pork Meatloaf smothered in mushroom gravy complemented with string beans, mashed potatoes and a dinner roll. Even better, this dish looks like it never touched the inside of a microwave.

But unlike a typical diner, you can have a glass of wine here and it will actually be good, as the international list is over 100 bottles long. Continuing the boozy train are Grasshopper and Espresso Martini milkshakes plus Dirty Shirley’s. But before you ask for the bill, remember to peruse the dessert menu, filled with homemade pies, cheesecakes and banana splits.

As diners are struggling to stay afloat and many institutions are shuttering their doors, is this new take on a classic the answer? Make a visit to this reinvented take and find out for yourself.
