Though we’ve had some gorgeous weather these past few days, in New York fashion, we might be in for a full switch up in temperatures tonight.
Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued a freeze warning from 1am to 8am for Thursday in areas of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. A freeze warning occurs when minimum temperatures are expected to reach 32°F or below overnight during the growing season.
And though it managed to warm up into the 60s by the afternoon today, another freeze warning has been issued for overnight in areas of northwestern Connecticut, Massachusetts, southern Vermont and east central New York. The warning will be in effect from 2am to 8am for Thursday, May 18.
According to the National Weather Service, such low temperatures could potentially lead to harmful conditions for crops and vegetation, damage on outdoor plumbing and frost. NWS advises people to take precautions with tender plants and to prevent outdoor pipes from bursting by wrapping or draining them.
Currently, forecasts for NYC tonight are sitting in the mid 50s. Going into the weekend, temperatures should pick back up after Thursday and go into the high 60s & 70s.
