NYC’s First Snow Is Expected To Fall In December
As November sets in, December will be on our doorstep before we can even say “Happy Thanksgiving!” And as fall slowly transitions into winter, we’re already trying to brace ourselves for what weather experts predict will be a frosty season.
During this time of the year, the only thing that makes up for earlier sunsets is the beautiful sight of the season’s first snowfall and the chance of a white Christmas.
Though no one can faultlessly predict exactly when the first snowfall will arrive, experts can estimate pretty damn close! According to the Weather Channel, New York normally sees its first snowfall on average by December 14th.
However, last year proved to be quite the exception with more than a 300-day snowless streak. In fact, NYC even broke a 50-year old record for the latest measurable snowfall that fell on February 1st, 2023.
Accuweather predicts NYC will receive anywhere from 18-26 inches of snowfall in total this season. That might sound like a lot since last year’s total only came to 2.3 inches, yet the seasonal average is actually 29.8 inches.
Regardless, at least we can look forward to NYC turning into a snowy wonderland, making it the perfect backdrop for all things holiday related!
