NYC To Raise Minimum Wage To $16 Starting in 2024
A statewide public awareness effort is ongoing to ensure that workers getting paid minimum wage in NYC, Long Island and Westchester will receive a dollar increase in per-hour payment beginning January 1, 2024.
Following 2024’s dollar climb, minimum wage will continue to increase by $0.50 in 2025 and 2026 before it gets indexed to inflation starting in 2027. This historic minimum wage increase agreement secured by Governor Kathy Hochul is part of the FY 2024 Budget.
The rest of New York State will receive $15 per-hour beginning January 1, 2024. If any wages are missed in the new year, employees are encouraged to report them. File complaints can be reported directly on the New York State Department of Labor’s website or via phone call (833-910-4378).
“On January 1, we are lifting New York’s minimum wage to help hard-working New Yorkers keep up with rising costs and continue supporting their families,” Governor Hochul said. “If you are a minimum wage worker and you don’t see this increase in your paycheck next year, I urge you to file a wage complaint with the Department of Labor to make sure that you are getting the wage increase you deserve.”
Digital outreach through social media, newsletters, e-mail communications and direct outreach will be utilized to remind New Yorkers.
