NYC Named The World’s Top LGBTQ+ Friendly Place
As NYC gears up for the annual Pride March, hosting endless Pride events throughout the month, Planet Cruise has revealed the top LGBTQ+ friendly locations in the world, and out of 100 cities NYC came out on top!
According to the site, searches for “LGBTQ+ friendly holiday destinations” have seen a 91% increase over the last 12 months, so they decided to uncover the top LGBTQ+ friendly cities and countries in the world.
Their ranking was based on a number of factors, including:
- Overall safety index
- Marriage laws
- Adoption laws
- Number of LGBTQ+ bars
Based on these factors, NYC received a total score of 3.843, just .062 points higher than our friends over in London, who came in second.
The Big Apple comes in first place, as the top LGBTQ+ friendly destination on our list. Not only is adoption and marriage legal for the LGBTQ+ community (as is the case with all cities that fall into our top 30), but it’s also home to the most LGBTQ+ bars, at 27, with Stonewall Inn perhaps the most iconic of all.
Besides NYC, the United States was featured seven more times in the top 50, more than any of the other countries on the list.
In addition to NYC, San Francisco, Las Vegas, LA, Orlando, Miami, Honolulu, and Washington D.C. all also found a spot on the list.
As we know, NYC is no stranger to supporting the LGBTQ+ community.
Each June an LGBTQ+ Book Crawl takes place in the Lower East Side, Brooklyn’s last remaining lesbian bar just opened up a sister location, Brooklyn recently received its first LGBTQ+ landmark, and, of course, there are quite a few LGBTQ+ bars to dance the night away at.
That’s to say we’re not surprised we made the number one spot on the list! The full study can be found here.
