New York Snowstorm Threatens To Disrupt Upcoming Holiday Travel

Though New York City skies finally relented to some rain after the city declared its first drought warning in over two decades, more wintry conditions are predicted to ensue for other areas of the state. In fact, this weekend’s powerful snowstorm Upstate left some cities with more than a foot of snow! Forecasters are predicting even more snow en route this week that could potentially disrupt Thanksgiving travel plans.

Upstate New York got its first glimpse of snow in October, when ‘snowliage’ graced the Adirondacks before Halloween had even come! And though some areas of New York State were just transformed into a winter wonderland, more snow may be on the way.

Between November 21st through the 23rd, Northwest regions of New York were expected to receive heavy snow and high winds blowing over much of the state’s western and southern cities, and that they did. The city of Delhi, New York, up in the Catskills, received a whopping 16.5 inches of snowfall.

According to a recent Facebook post from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the Interior Northeast may receive up to a 40% chance of heavy snow post-Thanksgiving (November 29th through December 5th), that could upset people’s holiday return.

NOAA warns that the lower 48 states will see the coldest air outbreak of the season so far.

Although NYC likely won’t see any snow this weekend–the city is estimated to receive its first snowfall of the season next month—possible rain is in the forecast on Thanksgiving Day.
