Here’s How New Yorkers Are Remembering Flaco, The Beloved Owl
After word got around about the death of the escaped Central Park zoo owl named Flaco, hearts were broken around the city. The news came shortly after the also recent death of Rover, the bald eagle.
According to the Wildlife Conservation Society, Flaco died from a building collision and was shortly after transferred to the Bronx Zoo for a necropsy.
The Eurasian eagle owl captured hearts from Central Park to the East Village. In memory of the beloved bird, tons of New Yorkers have come together to create a tribute in Central Park. A memorial service will be held by the “Flaco Fan Club” on Sunday, March 3rd at 102nd St Crossing and East Drive from 4pm-5pm.

Admirers of Flaco have left flowers, portraits and notes at the Central Park tribute.
One artist even left a colorful mural honoring the owl in Freeman Alley.
