Get thee to see the magnificent ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in Harlem!
An absolutely magnificent production of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” presented by the Classical Theatre of Harlem, has been playing for FREE at the Richard Rodgers Amphitheatre in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem. Any time that you hear that CTH is doing Shakespeare in the Park you should run to get your seat and get there early because the seats fill up pretty quickly. Let me emphasize that the play is only running through this Sunday, July 28.
As always, CTH approaches Shakespeare’s work with their own unique, amazing, jazz-filled, funny flair. This production has stupendous direction by Carl Cofield and this cast is absolutely one of the most amazing I have beheld in some time.
The story of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”contains a play within a play, with fairies, potions, magic and romance. The cast delivers captivating, entertaining and joyous performances that include phenomenal jazz, singing, dance, frolicking, and a storyline and presentation you will never forget. The cast, which performs as a phenomenal ensemble and will have you mesmerized, includes Ra’mya Aikens as Hermia; Hiram Delgado as Lysander; Noah Michal as Helena; Brandon Carter as Demetrius: Victor Williams as Theseus / Oberon; Jesmille Darbouze as Hippolyta / Titania; Allen Gilmore as Peter Quince / Egeus; Mykal Kilgore as Philostrate / Puck; León Tak as Francis Flute / Cobweb; Carson Elrod as Tom Snout / Peaseblossom / First Fairy; Olivia London as Snug, Second Fairy, Moth; and Deidre Staples as Starveling, Mustardseed. The production also features a stunning dance ensemble, whose members include Taylor Collier; Latrea Rembert, Tracy Dunbar; Taylor Daniels, Stemarciae Bain, Taylor Mackenzie Smith, Victor Lewis Jr., and Nisani Lopez.
When it comes to theater in New York City, especially free theater in the park, one might think you won’t find perfection, but that is not true when it comes to CTH. Go and enjoy it. For more info, visit cthnyc.org.
