First Snow Of The Year Brings Scenic Flurries Over NYC On Monday
Time to bust out the iconic black puffer coat: the first snow of the year in NYC has arrived just six days into 2025.
The new year forecast predicted we’d experience flurries on Monday, January 6th, courtesy of Winter Storm Blair, which eyed the central and eastern U.S. Though the flurries are scenic and appear to be easing throughout the afternoon, they were substantial enough for the city to enforce a winter advisory until midnight.

At this time, it’s expected that NYC could receive up to an inch of snow, with areas like Staten Island expected to receive up to 2 inches of snow. Travel delays are expected, but note that the Department of Sanitation pre-treated roads and bike lanes with brine on Sunday, January 5th.
Though snow accumulation is still TBD, one thing is for certain: it’s frigid out there. We’re in the midst of the coldest January in 13 years, and temperatures linger in the 30s this week, according to The Weather Channel. The warmest day will likely be Sunday the 11th, when temperatures are expected to reach a high of 37°F.
If that sounds a bit uncomfortable, make sure to peruse our guide to heat in NYC apartments — and what to do if you’re not getting the heat and hot water you need. Stay warm and safe, NYC, and be prepared — we’re likely to get more snow this weekend!
