F Train Service Will Be Disrupted Nearly Every Weekend This Summer
New Yorkers looking to get a thrill on all of Luna Park’s brand new rides this summer will have to figure out a new way to travel to Coney Island as the MTA plans to limit weekend service on the F line.
The service disruptions are due to a project working to modernize the signal system–which the MTA says is about 70 years old–on the Culver Line between Church Av and West 8 St.
The end result of the project will bring about more reliable transit and fewer delays, but not without nearly weekly disrupted service along the way.
During these improvements, there will be no service at the following twelve stations on impacted weekends:
- Ditmas Av
- 18 Av
- Avenue I
- Bay Pkwy
- Avenue N
- Avenue P
- Kings Highway
- Avenue U
- Avenue X
- Neptune Av
- West 8 St
- Coney Island-Stillwell Av
Impacted weekends will begin as early as Friday, April 28, and will continue through Monday, September 11. During these weekends, F trains won’t run between Ditmas Av and Coney Island-Stillwell Av from 9:30 p.m. on Friday trough 4:30 a.m. on Monday.
As alternatives, the MTA suggests travelers take D, N, or Q trains or local buses instead.
Service disruptions are currently planned for the following weekends:
- April 28-May 1
- May 5-8
- May 12-15
- May 26-30
- June 2-5
- June 9-12
- June 23-26
- June 30-July 30
- July 7-10
- July 28-31
- August 4-7
- August 11-14
- August 25-28
- September 1-5
- September 8-11
On Memorial Day (May 26-30) and Labor Day (September 1-5) weekends, work on the F line will include the Monday, with service changes in place until 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Unfortunately, the F line isn’t the only train experiencing service disruptions this year either–the J & M lines are currently undergoing two years-worth of disruptions due to Williamsburg Bridge repair.
Let’s look on the bright side, though: at least 20+ subway stations recently received much-needed renovations and a deep-cleaning, right?
