‘Elf’ Is Broadway-Bound This Holiday Season To Spread Christmas Cheer
Elf: The Musical is proof that the Great White Way is feeling festive.
Beginning Saturday, November 9th, Santa’s biggest supporter, Buddy the Elf (played by Grey Henson) will venture to the Marquis Theater for a wintertime run. Given that the performance is mirrored after the 2003 film, we’re feeling confident that Elf will make its way onto the list of the city’s best Christmas shows of the season.
For those who need a little brushing up on their holiday stories ahead of the winter, Buddy is an orphan raised by elves in the North Pole. But once he starts figuring out that he is in fact human — his size in comparison to everyone else’s definitely gave it away — he ventures to NYC in search of his birth father. The timing is perfect, quite frankly, because Christmas in NYC is unmatched.
While, of course, there will be similarities to the film we all watch each year, you can expect differences between Henson’s Buddy and Buddy from the Silver Screen, a.k.a. Will Ferrell.
“I’m trying not to think of Will during this process. He’s so unique and singular, and what he did with Buddy was so special, it’s impossible to emulate,” the actor told Broadway Direct. “I’ve been trying to pull from a real deep place of honesty because that’s what Buddy is. He’s pure and honest and naive and he just wants to have a good time.”
We’re ready to journey alongside Buddy when he makes it to Broadway.
