Facts, Curiosities and Interesting Things about Church of the Heavenly Rest

1. Major renovations

An electrical fire in 1993 resulted in major renovations taking place at the church. As a result, the space was fitted with a new organ console, English-made choir stalls, re-voiced organ pipes, and, rather poetically, the vaulted ceiling was repainted with stars representing Heaven.

2. Let there be light

The stained glass windows in the Arts & Crafts style at Church of the Heavenly Rest let the light in. Fortunately, the church’s neighbors are low-rise so plenty of sunlight shines through the rose window and arched West Window.

3. Let there be music

This congregation has valued the role of music for a long time. With this principle in mind, it comes as no surprise that the church is home to two pipe organs. The Nave Organ is a 137-rank Austin Organ with over 8000 pipes and a 5-manual console built by Guilbault-Therien of Quebec. And the other Austin pipe organ is in the Chapel of the Beloved Disciple.
