Brooklyn Locals Highlight Off The Beaten Path Wine In This Cozy Art-Gallery-Turned-Restaurant
On the tail end of 2023 Cecily opened its doors in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, making a name for itself as the borough’s newest restaurant and wine bar with a seasonal, produce-driven culinary identity and diverse beverage program.
And if you haven’t checked it out yet it’s definitely worth a visit!
The women-owned restaurant is the brainchild of a team of NYC dining alumni–sommelier and beverage director Kristin Ma (Estela, WS New York, LaLou, and Anfora), service director Tara Noble (LaLou, Lea, Rosemary’s; also the founder of consultancy, Third Space Hospitality), and executive chef Zach Frieling (The Four Horsemen).
Housed in a former art gallery complete with quirky angles and lofted ceilings, the space is, at its essence, a dream.
Their restaurant puts an emphasis on seasonal produce and vegetable-driven snacks and larger plates, such as brussels sprouts with apple and parmesan, butter beans with braised collards, and porcini mushroom “chicharron.”
But like any good wine bar there are, of course, meat and seafood options, too, like the Berkshire Pork Chop with toyko turnips, banyuls, and crème fraîche and the Spanish Mackerel with salsa macha, red onion, cilantro, and lime.
When it comes to drinks, Cecily’s focus is on natural wines.
The menu highlights bottles from off-the-beaten-path Spanish regions such as Galicia, Basque Country, and Catalunya, in addition to bubbles, textured whites, and light skin reds in natural and timeless styles from across the globe.
In addition to wine, the beverage program also includes an assortment of craft cocktails and zero-proof cocktail and wine options.
Beyond the food and drink, Cecily values a sense of place and neighborhood and its founders prioritize hiring employees locally from the surrounding community.
They offer their staff profit-sharing and ownership opportunities, and all employees are “encouraged to follow their interests and learn all aspects of operating a restaurant, ultimately empowering them with an active, long-term role in the business,” reads the press release.
Cecily is located at 80 Franklin Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn in the former IRL Gallery. You can learn more and make reservations here.
