The New Timothée Chalamet Movie Set Takes The Lower East Side Back In Time

It appears the clock turned back time in the Lower East Side, and it’s all because of the new Timothée Chalamet movie.

The Call Me By Your Name actor was has been filming in New York City in early October for a new A24 film, Marty Supreme. Although specifics about the upcoming movie are mum, it will follow the life of Marty Reisman, famed ping pong champion who took home the 1958 and 1960 U.S. Men’s singles champion. According to Deadline, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tyler the Creator, Odessa A’zion, Penn Jillette, Kevin O’Leary (aka Mr. Wonderful), and Abel Ferrara are also set to start in the forthcoming film alongside Chalamet.

Naturally, like all other movies and TV shows set in NYC, Marty Supreme looked the part, which meant giving a small slice of downtown a vintage twist.

Orchard Street transformed into a nostalgic ’50s street, complete with large, old olive-green Chevies, dated storefront signs, and plenty of shipping crates. Residents and commuters were able to catch a glimpse of the throwback block throughout the week. @marjfz on Instagram had an inside sneak peek of the cinematic transformation.

Isn’t it interesting to think of what NYC once looked like? The Lower East Side has a rawness to it, and it’s safe to say the photos capture it well. Throughout the week, New Yorkers even saw Chalamet in his gentlemanly ’50s garb, mustache, glasses, and all.

Earlier this year, the native New Yorker was filming the Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, which is slated to hit theaters on Christmas Day 2024. It’ll depict the folk singer’s music career, undoubtedly, with nods to his life in Brooklyn.
