Spirit Halloween Will Swap Fear For Cheer With New ‘Spirit Christmas’

Spirit Halloween is replacing its ghoulish masks and fan favorite costumes for stocking stuffers and holiday apparel with the debut of the brand’s first-ever Spirit Christmas stores.

Stocked with “aisles full of Christmas magic,” Spirit Christmas is the ultimate holiday shopping destination this year, among NYC’s best Christmas markets, of course.

Yet in un-jolly news, no Christmas Spirit will be in NYC. However, the closest location will be just an hour drive from the city in Woodbridge, NJ. Other Spirit Christmas locations can be found all across the East Coast. *Some locations don’t open until November

Spirit Christmas store locations:

  • Brick Township, New Jersey (Market Place at Brick)
  • Marlton, New Jersey (Willow Ridge)
  • Mays Landing, New Jersey (Consumer Square)
  • Woodbridge, New Jersey (The Plaza at Woodbridge)
  • Albany, New York (Colonie Center)
  • Bohemia, New York (Sayville Plaza)
  • Poughkeepsie, New York (Chestnut Plaza)
  • Waterford, Connecticut (Crystal Mall)
  • Dartmouth, Massachusetts (Faunce Corner Shopping Center)
  • Erie, Pennsylvania (Mill Creek Mall)

Beyond shopping Spirit Christmas’ festive inventory, customers can also book photos with Santa. You can explore Santa’s hours at each Spirit Christmas location and reserve a time for your meeting online to skip the line.

And since Halloween hasn’t even happened yet, you can surely still stop by a Spirit Halloween in NYC and shop its most popular costume trends for 2024. It’ll be the perfect thing to wear can at one of NYC’s hottest Halloween parties.

Mets Advance To NLCS With Lindor’s Grand Slam Swing Heard Around Queens

The New York Mets have punched their ticket to the National League Championship Series (NLCS). They have clinched the series with a 3-1 record over division rivals Philadelphia Phillies.

In a dramatic Game 4, the defining moment came in the sixth inning when Francisco Lindor hit a grand slam, propelling the Mets to a 1-4 win. Now, with the city buzzing and Grimace becoming a legend in his own right, fans are eager to see what comes next for the Orange and Blue.

Francisco Lindor’s grand slam sends the Mets to the NLCS

A grand slam occurs when a batter hits a home run with all three bases occupied, scoring four runs. It’s one of the most exciting plays in baseball, and Francisco Lindor’s grand slam was the key moment that helped the Mets clinch their place in the NLCS. It turned the whole game around and lit up Citi Field.

As excitement builds, many New Yorkers are wondering how to secure Mets NLCS tickets. The demand is high, with fans eager to see the Mets on the verge of a potential World Series run. Check the official Mets website for availability. Prices will vary, but with Citi Field set to host the NLCS, tickets are expected to sell out fast.

The New York Mets will face the winner of the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS. The Metsies will face them in a series that alternates between home and away games in a best-of-seven format.

The first two games are at the home stadium of the team with the better record, meaning the Mets will be starting on the road before returning to Citi Field.

Apparently, A Geomagnetic Storm Is On Its Way To NYC

While we’re patiently waiting to see how the 2024-2025 winter predictions pan out, we have another impending event: a geomagnetic storm. NYC will experience it on Thursday, October 10th and Friday, October 11th.

With this forthcoming happening, star gazers will be pleased to learn aurora borealis will likely be visible — a green and purple tinge highlighting the night sky. (We’re always clamoring for a glimpse of the Northern Lights, aren’t we?)

While it seems like a beautiful sight to behold, there are a few potential issues that come along with a geomagnetic storm. Here’s what we know.

What is a geomagnetic storm?

The National Oceanic And Atmospheric Administration defines a geomagnetic storm as “a major disturbance of Earth’s magnetosphere that occurs when there is a very efficient exchange of energy from the solar wind into the space environment surrounding Earth. These storms result from variations in the solar wind that produces major changes in the currents, plasmas, and fields in Earth’s magnetosphere.”

It all sounds very scientific, and it has the power to disrupt technology. However, it’s not harmful.

According to NASA, “Solar flares are powerful bursts of radiation. Harmful radiation from a flare cannot pass through Earth’s atmosphere to physically affect humans on the ground. However — when intense enough — they can disturb the atmosphere in the layer where GPS & communications signals travel.”

What will happen during a geomagnetic storm?

During this time, power grids, radio signals, GPS systems, and the like could potentially be affected.

NYC Emergency Management is monitoring this week’s potential situation and said, “Our federal partners from the Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC) have issued a Geomagentic Storm Watch.”

It added, “While the public does not need to take any action at this time, we always encourage everyone to stay informed through Notify NYC and having an emergency plan in place that includes a Go Bag with an AM radio.”

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as more information unfolds.

Slurp $5 Bowls Of Ramen For One Day Only At NYC’s First Tsukemen Ramen Shop

There’s nothing quite as comforting as slurping a hot bowl of soup on a chilly fall day, and TabeTomo, NYC’s first tsukemen ramen restaurant, is certainly reading the room! The East Village ramen shop will be reopening this month on Wednesday, October 16th, and to ring in this new chapter they’ll be serving up $5 bowls of ramen!

Since first opening in 2018 (it was the first eatery to debut under AYS Hospitality, paving the way for exciting sister concepts such as The Office of Mr. Moto), TabeTomo has weathered quite the storm with COVID-related challenges, a 2022 break-in, and most recently substantial fire damage from an upstairs apartment that forced them to close back in April.

And now they’re back and better than ever, having since adapted a “fall down seven, stand up eight” outlook, or “Nana Korobi, Ya Oki,” which is serving as their come-back campaign slogan.

Helmed by Chef Tomo Kubo, the TabeTomo team is excited to present a new menu for ramen lovers and newcomers alike to enjoy tsukemen–つけ麺 or “dipping ramen”–the modern cousin of the traditional Japanese ramen where noodles are dipped into a separate bowl of broth making for firmer noodles and a robust flavor profile.

The staple tsukemen dishes are served with TabeTomo’s 60-hour broth, beloved for its deeply rich umami-forward flavor. The restaurant’s tsukemen portion of the menu includes Tonkotsu Jiro Tsukemen, dipping noodles with pork broth, chashu slices, and vegetables, and Tonkotsu Chashu Jiro Tsukemen, dipping noodles with pork broth, soft boiled egg, pork chashu, and vegetables.

But ramen isn’t all that’s on the menu–there’s also Donburi (rice bowls) and small plates including Karaage Chicken, Takoyaki, Croquettes, Tempura Bites, Omusubi Rice Balls, and more, all of which are equally delicious.

And if you’re feeling brave how about partaking in their popular megamori tsukemen challenge, where guests are challenged to eat a heaping 16lb bowl of tsukemen in 30 minutes? If you can slurp it all down you’ll receive a free meal, t-shirt, and a spot on TabeTomo’s wall of fame. The current time record is 9 minutes and 32 seconds.

The TabeTomo team is excited to welcome their loyal regulars and newcomers back into their cozy, renovated dining room. Can’t make it in for a $5 bowl of ramen? No worries–mark your calendar for Thursday, October 17th instead, when the first 100 customers will receive a free t-shirt with their order.

The infamous revolving restaurant in Times Square, The View, is coming back—courtesy of Danny Meyer

The infamous revolving restaurant in Times Square, The View, is coming back—courtesy of Danny Meyer

New York’s only revolving restaurant is getting a makeover.

Opened in 1985, The View was perched above Times Square, found on the 47th and 48th floor of the Marriott Marquis. Calling back to the rotating restaurants prominent in the ’60s, the entire restaurant spun on the hour, every hour, giving guests a full panorama of the city. But over the years, the restaurant spun into gimmicky territory, popular with tourists, but a trap to locals. But now, the Times Square destination will transform into an upscale dining restaurant, evoking the vibrant nightlife of historic New York.

Coming this winter, The View will be once again spinning the block. Thanks to Union Square Hospitality, the two-story venue will be reimagined as a hub for American classics for the area’s theater crowd.

“Both the New York Marriott Marquis and USHG were established in 1985, and each has played a pivotal role in reshaping New York’s hospitality landscape over the past 40 years,” says USHG founder and executive chairman Danny Meyer in a press release. “By combining culinary excellence with warm hospitality, we intend to create a destination dining experience and evening out—smack dab in the heart of the Broadway Theater District—that appeals to New Yorkers and visitors alike.”

The firm behind some of New York’s hotspots—from COQODAQ to the Equinox Hotel—the Rockwell Group will be behind the renovation, set to offer two distinct guest experiences. The entryway on the 48th floor will soon feature a 20-seat bar and lounge with elevated bar snacks, small plates and a raw bar. Climbing down the spiral staircase to the 47th floor, the new and improved restaurant will trade the all-you-can-eat buffet for supper club eats that draw on American classics. Thanks to a piano, nightly music will soon be on offer. And of course, the dining room will continue to rotate, showing off 360-degree views of the skyline.

Keep an eye on its Instagram to keep up to date.

4 NYC Bars Named In The World’s 50 Best Bars 2024: The 51-100 List

NYC’s bar scene is unmatched with everything from hidden bars with secret entrances and listening bars for cocktails and records to quintessential hotel bars and even a bar dating back to 1762, so we certainly weren’t surprised when 12 NYC bars landed on this year’s annual World’s 50 Best Bars list released back in April. Though that’s not all–the extended version has just been revealed, unveiling the world’s best bars ranked between 51st and 100th, and four more NYC bars found their way onto the list!

The 51-100 list includes bars spanning 35 different cities across the world, and of the 14 bars from the Americas bars from the U.S. lead the list once again. Seven bars hail from four U.S. cities including New York, though we’re in good company with our friends from Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

And New York City is home to four of the seven bars:

Dante, West Village – No.79

We’re certainly not surprised Dante made the list as they’re one of our favorites for many things–happy hour, negronis, aperol spritzes…shall we go on?! You can even get their bottled cocktails to-go!

📍 79-81 MacDougal St.

Katana Kitten, Greenwich Village – No.80

Cocktail from Katana Kitten, which made it onto the Worlds 50 Best Bars 51-100
Source / Katana Kitten

One of our favorite cocktail bars in NYC for one-of-a-kind drinks, Katana Kitten is a Japanese cocktail bar split into an “Upstairs” and “Downstairs” depending on the vibe you’re looking for–the upstairs serves more as a lounge for sipping, and the basement is for those looking for a bit more of a rowdier experience. If you ask us, you can’t go wrong with the Shiso Gin & Tonic, made with Fords Gin, shiso, lime, and tonic, or the Panda Fizz, made with Haku vodka, pear, calpico, lemon, pandan, and lava salt.

📍 531 Hudson St.

Attaboy, LES – No.84

Cocktail from Attaboy, named on the Worlds 50 Best Bars 51-100
Source / Attaboy

Attaboy, one of our favorite speakeasies, is hidden in plain sight on an obscure bit of Eldridge Street. But what’s even cooler than their hidden entrance is that they don’t even have a menu of cocktails to choose from; instead you’ll have to tell the bartender what you’re in the mood for and trust that they’ll whip up the perfect drink for you. And considering they made it onto this list we have a feeling you won’t be upset with what you get.

📍 134 Eldridge St.

Employees Only, West Village  – No.97

Cocktail from Employees Only

Hidden behind a psychic’s reading den is the West Village staple Employees Only. Their Prohibition-era speakeasy vibe has withstood the test of time, raking up tons of awards over the years with their daring drinks, such as their twist on a Manhattan, made with Rittenhouse Rye Stirred with Italian Vermouth, Grand Marnier, and dashes of bitters, and the Ginger Smash, made with muddled ginger root and fresh cranberries and shaken with Roku Gin, apple liqueur and fresh lemon juice.

📍 510 Hudson St.

All four bars had previously made it onto the World’s 50 Best North America bar list–Katana Kitten at No.12, Employees Only at No.15, Dante at No.20, and Attaboy at No.31. The full Worlds 50 Best Bars 51-100 list can be found here.

To determine the rankings, votes are casted by The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, made up of 270 drink experts from the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The 16th annual World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 awards ceremony will take place in Madrid this month on October 22, 2024. Bars and cocktail lovers are invited to join through The World’s 50 Best Bars Facebook page and 50 Best Bars TV channel on YouTube.

Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Bars, stated:

We are absolutely thrilled to once again spotlight more of the world’s most remarkable bars…This extended ranking gives us another incredible opportunity to celebrate the relentless dedication and unparalleled hospitality of the world’s best bars on an even greater scale and to welcome bars from even more destinations to the ranking.
