JetBlue introduces summertime flights from NYC to Edinburgh, Scotland

Start daydreaming about exploring Edinburgh Castle, drinking a pint and walking Scotland’s cobblestone streets because getting there just got easier!

JetBlue just introduced new, nonstop flights to Edinburgh taking off from New York City’s JFK airport.

RECOMMENDED: The 28 best things to do in Edinburgh right now

The flights from JFK take off at 9:12pm EST with an arrival in Edinburgh at 9:30am BST. From Edinburgh, flights to JFK take off at 12:30pm BST and arrive at 3:06pm EST.

This daily seasonal service (it’s only running this summer through September 30), will use JetBlue’s Airbus A321neo with Mint which has 16 redesigned Mint Suite seats, 144 core seats and Airbus’ Enhanced Cabin with XL Bins. According to JetBlue, the A321neo with Mint features an average 20% increase in fuel efficiency and up to 500 nautical miles in additional range.

“This new direct JetBlue route from Edinburgh to New York City will really help strengthen links between our two great countries,” said John Lamont, UK Government Minister for Scotland. “Just last month, I walked down Sixth Avenue with other representatives from the U.K. Government as part of the annual Tartan Day celebrations in Manhattan, promoting our most important exports—whisky, energy and financial services, and our rich culture. This flight route will make it easier for visitors from the U.S. to come and see for themselves what a uniquely attractive destination we have here, while also easing travel for Scottish visitors wanting to explore the Big Apple and beyond.”

The iconic house from ‘Home Alone’ is now on sale in the Chicago suburbs

The iconic house from 'Home Alone' is now on sale in the Chicago suburbs

Plenty of TV show and film homes have gained cult status (The HolidayFriendsFather of the Bride!), but none are quite as beloved as the suburban Chicago house that takes on a central role in the various Home Alone movies.

Every time we see that instantly recognizable facade, we dream of owning it. If you share that fantasy and happen to have $5.25 million to spare, you are in luck: the 9,000-square-foot home is officially on sale for that price.

The single family residence is found at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, a suburb of Chicago, and it boasts five total bedrooms and six bathrooms (it looked even bigger in the movies, right?). Built back in 1921, the brick Georgian home was fully renovated and expanded back in 2018, but the “owners took the utmost care in maintaining the architectural detail and integrity of the home’s most memorable and recognizable spaces,” according to the official listing on Zillow. Among them: that beautiful entry staircase, the dining room, the formal living room and the foyer.

Additions include a new sun-drenched family room with French doors that open to the backyard, a top-notch kitchen with double islands and a hidden pantry, a second family room and a screened-in porch with a wood-burning fireplace and expansive patio.

There are also two laundry rooms on separate floors, a mudroom, a three-car attached and heated garage and tons of storage.

It truly is the house of one’s dreams.

This isn’t the first time that the home has been accessible to the public: A few years ago, in 2021, fans were able to rent it out for a single night for $25 as part of an Airbnb promotion.

That being said, the last time the residence was actually on the market was over a decade ago, in 2012, when it sold for nearly $1.6 million. Clearly, times (and real estate prices!) have changed.

You can buy an omakase box curated by Blake Lively at a Daniel Boulud restaurant now

You can buy an omakase box curated by Blake Lively at a Daniel Boulud restaurant now

Known for her film roles and, of course, for portraying the iconic Serena van der Woodsen in New York-set 2000s’ TV show Gossip Girl, Blake Lively isn’t necessarily the first person that comes to mind when thinking of the traditional Japanese omakase meal.

Alas, the actress might be looking to diversify her portfolio by launching a new omakase box that she has curated herself. The sushi collection is currently available at Michelin starred chef Daniel Boulud’s to-go destination Jōji Box, right under Grand Central at 1 Vanderbilt Avenue.

Dubbed Jōji Box by Betty B, the creation includes a drink from Lively’s own sparkling beverage brand, Betty Booze (see what they did there?).

The sparkling tequila with lime shiso drink will “pair perfectly” with “fresh sushi pieces handpicked by Blake herself,” according to an official press release.

Although the press release doesn’t go into detail about the specifics of the order, a mere search through the eatery’s website leads to answers: Lively’s box will cost you $55 and include 16 pieces of food, including two toro nigiri, two salmon nigiri, a pair of yellowtail nigiri, a single akami nigiri, a madai nigiri, half a spicy tuna roll alongside half a snow crab California roll, plus edamame and, of course, the actress’ signature beverage. You can order it for pick-up or to go right here.

We are not usually prone to ordering dishes that have been created by celebrities who don’t have much to do with the food industry, especially when the inventions work as marketing stints for other products, but we must admit that Lively’s omakase box looks delicious. Bonus points: it’s served by the same people dishing out super high-end sushi at Jōji Box.

A bit about the counter itself: Jōji Box opened back in 2022 as an extension of Boulud’s omakase restaurant Jōji, which is also run by chef George Ruan, the former chef at Masa.

Needless to say, all the parties involved know what they are doing—and it shows.

Here’s the best way to see Manhattanhenge tonight

Here's the best way to see Manhattanhenge tonight

Manhattanhenge is that special time every summer when the sunset perfectly aligns with Manhattan’s grid, quite literally looking like it’s tucked between the city’s skyscrapers. The phenomenon typically happens twice a year—a couple of times at end of May and again in mid-July—but the weather doesn’t always cooperate.

Luckily for us, tonight’s celestial event will be met with clear skies.

Here’s everything you need to know to fully enjoy the unique (and downright stunning!) occurrence.

RECOMMENDED: A Guide to Manhattanhenge 2024 in NYC

Where is the best place to catch Manhattanhenge?

The best streets to catch the sunset are 14th, 23rd, 34th, 42nd and 57th Streets, according to Neil deGrasse Tyson, since they are wider and are also home to some of the city’s most iconic buildings, which make for better pictures.

The top views are going to be towards the eastern side of the island.

Other popular places to catch Manhattanhenge include the Tudor City Overpass, which has views of the Chrysler Building, and Hunter’s Point South Park in Long Island City, Queens. Another good place to catch it is the Park Avenue Viaduct near Grand Central Station, per the New York Times.

These are all suggestions, of course. Any cross street with a clear view of the horizon towards New Jersey will be just fine, so don’t be afraid to explore other options.

What is the best time to see Manhattanhenge?

Tonight, Manhattanhenge will reach full effect at 8:13pm, per the American Museum of Natural History.

You’ll probably want to figure out where you’re going to set up shop before then, though, since the peak of the phenomenon only happens for a few minutes and you don’t want to be scrambling to find a good photo op while it’s happening.

What is the weather like tonight for Manhattanhenge?

If you’re planning to go see Manhattanhenge, you should probably choose tonight over tomorrow. Tonight’s forecast is giving clear skies in the mid to high 70s, while scattered thunderstorms are expected tomorrow during sunset.
