You Can Get A $1.20 Bagel With Schmear From Zabar’s For 4 Days Only This October

Two milestone NYC anniversaries are coming up: the NYC subway’s 120th anniversary and the legendary Zabar’s 90th anniversary. And to celebrate the two are coming together to offer New Yorkers what they want most: a bagel with schmear at an incredible price!

For a limited time, New Yorkers can get their hands on a bagel with schmear for $1.20 (honoring the subway’s anniversary) or a bagel with cream cheese and lox for $9.90 (honoring Zabar’s anniversary). They’ll also have a bagel with schmear and a coffee deal for $2.90. Bagels will be wrapped in bagel and subway-themed paper with drawings of stations, cars, signage, and more.

But that’s not all–as a pre-bagel deal sweet treat, on Tuesday, October 22nd, NYC Transit workers will distribute hundreds of Zabar’s beloved Black and White cookies to lucky subway riders at four subway stations in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens.

MTA Chief Customer Officer Shanifah Rieara stated:

What better way to celebrate the legacy of 120 years of the subway than partnering with another generational mainstay of New York City – Zabar’s. These commuter specials are a way for both the MTA and Zabar’s to show customers we value their continued patronage and look forward to celebrating more milestones to come.

Aptly named the “commuter special,” the bagel deals will be available beginning Thursday, October 24th, through Sunday, October 27th, from 8 am to 11 am, so be sure to mark your calendar! But, in case you forget, messages reminding customers of the Zabar’s deal will run on digital screens throughout subway stations and onboard train cars.

Additionally, the MTA and Zabar’s will also host a social media sweepstakes where there will be a chance to win a special MTAxZabar’s gift basket. A winner will be chosen on Sunday, October 27th.

But 120 years of the NYC subway certainly calls for a big celebration, so beyond the Zabar’s partnership the New York Transit Museum will also be offering New Yorkers four nostalgia train rides on Sunday, October 27th and Saturday, November 16th.

Every NYC Fan Wants It, But Is A 2024 Subway Series Realistic?

The 2024 MLB postseason has brought New York baseball fans a renewed sense of hope. With the Yankees and Mets both just four wins away from the World Series, the possibility of another Subway Series is on the horizon.

This iconic showdown last happened in 2000, and the excitement of seeing both teams face off again has many asking, is a Subway Series in 2024 possible?

What is the Subway Series?

A Subway Series refers to a World Series where both participating teams are from New York. This would mean that the Yankees and Mets, who play in the American and National leagues respectively, would meet in the championship.

The term originates from the days when New York’s baseball teams all played in close proximity, making subway travel between stadiums a practical reality for fans.

How realistic is a Subway World Series in 2024?

Currently, both the Yankees and the Mets are competing in their respective Championship Series. If both teams win their series, we will see a Subway Series for the first time in 24 years.

Why is a Subway Series 2024 so exciting for New Yorkers?

For both die-hard baseball fans and casual supporters, a Subway Series represents more than just a game. It’s a city-wide rivalry, and the stakes are incredibly high.

In 2000, Yankees legend Derek Jeter stated that winning the Subway Series felt like a necessity and that losing control of the city to the Mets would have been devastating. A repeat of this clash in 2024 would electrify New York, with fans of both teams passionately backing their side.

Subway Series 2024 tickets: How can you get them?

Tickets to a Subway Series game would be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If the Yankees and Mets both advance, tickets will likely sell out within hours.

The best way to secure a spot would be to sign up for team alerts, check official websites, and be prepared to act quickly. Demand will be sky-high, especially given the long wait since the last Subway Series.

What makes the Mets a contender in 2024?

The Mets have shown resilience throughout the season. Led by Francisco Lindor and new manager Carlos Mendoza, the Mets have proven themselves by sweeping the Yankees in the regular season.

Are the Yankees going to the World Series?

The Yankees are no strangers to the postseason. With stars like Aaron Judge leading the charge, they continue to be a dominant force. Having reached the ALCS multiple times over the last few years, they are experienced in the high-pressure environment of the playoffs.

Italian spa QC New York on Governors Island just opened a giant new building with a restaurant

Italian spa QC New York on Governors Island just opened a giant new building with a restaurant

When the luxurious QC NY opened on Governors Island back in 2022, it was the talk of the town—and for good reason: the Italian wellness destination put the 172-acre island back on the scene by offering visitors top-notch experiences overlooking Manhattan’s beautiful skyline.

In the years since the opening, the spa has continued to draw attention but it is now officially ready for a glow-up with the unveiling of the new Building 111, a 15,000-square-foot addition complete with a 142-bistro called Casa QC.

Inside the 5,000-square-foot restaurant, guests can choose to dine in their robes on two buffet options called “relax and refresh” and “relax and gusto” (in Italian, gusto means flavor). The former features cold cuts and artisanal cheeses alongside a salad bar, fruits and dessert options while the latter also includes hot and cold main courses (think pasta dishes, frittate, soups and more).

“Casa QC is designed to be—like the traditional Italian kitchen—the heart of the spa,” reads an official press release. “Inspired by the Italian Design Renaissance of the 1960s, Casa QC features a stunning lighting centerpiece by Italian designer Contardi composed of nine lampshades, each inspired by the decade’s most fashionable hats.”

But let’s not forget that this is a wellness center, after all. Building 111 is also home to a room featuring a hydro jet water massage and eight new relaxation areas (you’re even welcome to take a nap inside one of them!), plus a number of pretty eclectic sounding themed sections that we cannot wait to visit.

On that list is the Horizon Room, where the wellness ritual will involve the use of seaweed (no, we’re not kidding) and the Dream room, featuring “six waterbeds that lull the willing wanderer into a soothing sensory reset while a custom-made eight-minute film titled Viaggio Onirico (that would be “dreamlike voyage”) is projected overhead.” We’re already feeling relaxed.

There is also the Lavender Room, which is actually being marketed as “an olfactory treat” complete with a foot massage that uses wooden rollers, the Ice Room (pretty self-explanatory and, yes, it involves a cold plunge), the Balloon Room filled with hot air balloon-like activities and the Butterfly Room, where you’ll get to sit on a chair that’s suspended from the ceiling.

Whether you’re a frequent spa-goer or not, a trip to Building 111 is likely going to be de rigeur this season: there’s just something about getting a massage while admiring the skyscrapers that make up Manhattan that will fill you with the kind of wonder necessary to get through New York’s upcoming winter season.

Ice skating at Rockefeller Center is back for a magical 2024 season

Ice skating at Rockefeller Center is back for a magical 2024 season

The world’s most famous ice rink is back for the season—yes, even before Halloween. The Rink at Rockefeller Center is now open and ready for anybody who’s feeling more “holiday season” than “spooky season.”

The iconic Manhattan ice rink, a fixture in countless movies and TV shows, is celebrating 88 years in New York City. It officially opened on Saturday, October 12 and will be open throughout the fall and winter.

Though the rink is staple in New York City these days, it actually started as a temporary attraction to draw visitors to Rockefeller Center’s outdoor plaza in 1936. By 1939, it became a permanent attraction. Since then, it has evolved into one of the city’s most legendary landmarks and most-visited sites, hosting more than a quarter of a million skaters annually.

Tickets to the rink start at $21 per person and go up to $114 per person, depending on the date, time and skater’s age. Skate rentals are not included and cost about $12. Right now, the rink is open from 9am–11pm, but once the season ramps up, the rink opens as early as 7am. For some extra pre-Halloween fun, kids under age 12 can skate for free on Saturdays and Sundays until October 31 if they wear a costume.

Looking ahead to the winter season, if you want to go all-out, you can book a holiday ticket package, which include options like professional photos in front of the Christmas tree, reservations at an Après Skate holiday chalet, a meet-up with Santa and a tour of the entire Rockefeller Center campus including the rooftop garden.

Though the rink is open early in the season (last year, it opened on October 21), you might want to grab a skating session soon to beat the rush. Once peak season hits (from the week of Thanksgiving through January 1), there’s going to be a bit of a wait to get on the slick stuff. So grab a ticket and get your main character moment before the crowds.
