Sutton Foster, Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler to join Trisha Paytas’ Broadway debut next month

Sutton Foster, Ben Platt and Rachel Zegler to join Trisha Paytas' Broadway debut next month

L.A. based YouTuber and Internet royalty Trisha Paytas dreams of becoming a Broadway star are getting bigger: a slew of high-profile theater figures will officially join Paytas on stage on February 3 for her one-night-only musical theater celebration, Trisha Paytas’ Big Broadway Dream.

The high-profile guest list includes Broadway darling Sutton Foster, musical theater star Ben Platt, Rachel Zegler of West Side Story fame and Joy Woods, who stars in the 2024 Broadway revival of Gypsy opposite Audra McDonald.

Previously announced ensemble members include Morgan Bryant, Beau Harom and Lena Matthews, among others.

“I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Paytas said in a statement months ago. “Of all my dreams, this one is the biggest. I didn’t know how it would happen, but I always felt it would. I’m thankful. Grateful. Humbled. I can’t wait to perform with so many talented people on a Broadway stage. Making my Broadway debut is what I’m looking forward to most in 2025. I hope people will find inspiration that you truly can do anything you want in life. I’ve been told so many times this would never happen. And now it is! Hopefully it’s just the beginning of my New York adventure.”

Funnily enough, the concept for the show was born out of an April Fool’s Day joke of sorts, when Kobi Kassal, a producer on the upcoming Paytas one-night extravaganza, jokingly reported that the YouTuber was going to play Roxie Hart in Chicago. The public reacted excitedly, which led Kassal and producer partner George Strus to actually create a show for the celebrity.

Dreams really do come true.

This is (Still) NYC’s Most Expensive Neighborhood

We’ve already got you covered with the 10 hottest NYC neighborhoods to keep an eye on in 2025 if you’re in the market for a new apartment. Now if you’re looking for which NYC neighborhoods you totally don’t even have to bother looking at, particularly because they’re NYC’s most expensive neighborhoods, we’re getting to that now–that is, of course, unless you have that type of money. We, on the other hand, can’t even keep up with the increasing subway fare 🥴

PropertyShark recently released its annual list of the Top 50 Most Expensive NYC Neighborhoods in 2024 based on property sale data between January 1st and December 31st, 2024, and for the sixth year in a row Hudson Yards has claimed the number one spot. And not only that, the neighborhood also broke records! PropertyShark writes:

Hudson Yards reached new pricing height last year and retained its #1 leading position for the sixth consecutive year at a staggering $7.13 million median sale price, the result of a 22% Y-o-Y price jump.

Sheeesh is that steep! In fact, it’s $3.84 million higher than the median sale price of TriBeCa, which came in second with a 12% Y-o-Y price that pushed it to $3.3 million, and $4.03 million higher than the median sale price of SoHo, which came in third with a median sale price of $3.1 million following a 15% Y-o-Y drop.

The neighborhoods that saw the biggest jump in median sale prices were Chelsea and NoLita, both with a 50% Y-o-Y jump.

Manhattan once again leads the top 10, with nine neighborhoods ranking among the city’s most expensive, of which eight surpassed $2 million. Likely the result of this, Manhattan saw a 2% Y-o-Y downtick in sales in 2024. Brooklyn, on the other hand, inched up 2% in Y-o-Y sales, the Bronx saw a 5% decrease in sales, and Queens stayed consistent.

Overall, 41 NYC neighborhoods reached median sale prices of at least $1 million, and real estate prices regained some of the decreases experienced in 2023, inching up 3% Y-o-Y to a $748,000 median sale price.

Rounding out the top ten of NYC’s most expensive neighborhoods is as follows:

1. Hudson Yards: $7,126,000 median sale price

These 3 Star Signs Were Made For New York City

Of the 12 star signs in the zodiac, we wanted to uncover which signs are the most cut out for NYC life. Therefore, we spoke with celebrity astrologer, Kyle Thomas, and East Coast tarot reader and astrologer, Liz Simmons, to hear which signs they believe are made for NYC.

NYC neighborhoods for star signs are according to Liz Simmons and other online sources.

♈ Aries

Aries are known for their dominance and leadership. Some say this comes from being the first zodiac sign. Thomas believes “NYC will captivate their sense of awe and
fill them with never-ending adrenaline..”

Moreover, Simmons notes that fire signs are generally more “vivacious,” making NYC’s fast-paced environment perfect for them to thrive.

♌ Leo

NYC is an entertainment capital, home to Broadway, Lincoln Center and the most musical performances than any other city in the world. Therefore, it’s no surprise Leo’s—who love the spotlight—fit right in. There charisma and confidence will build them a thick skin to handle and flourish within the harsh industry here.

Moreover, Simmons made mention that of all the fire signs, Leos would be the first to break into NYC’s exclusive social scenes.

♑ Capricorn

Since Capricorns are the “business head of the zodiac,” as noted by Thomas, they fit perfectly into NYC’s hustle culture. He notes their knack for methodical and traditional approaches within their career, as well as their excellence with money, make them a common candidate for a corporate boss role.

Likewise, Simmons believes NYC’s professional possibilities would attract Capricorns. As determined Earth signs, they won’t be deterred from putting in the work to make it to the top.

An Off-Broadway show about the infamous Gwyneth Paltrow skiing incident is playing at SoHo Playhouse

An Off-Broadway show about the infamous Gwyneth Paltrow skiing incident is playing at SoHo Playhouse

Few celebrity-adjacent scandals have garnered as much continuous press as Gwyneth Paltrow’s skiing accident at Deer Valley Resort in Utah back in 2016, when retired optometrist Terry Sanderson claimed that the actress collided with him on the slopes and left him injured.

Three years later, in 2019, Sanderson sued Paltrow, seeking $3.1 million in damages. In a stunning move that still makes folks chuckle, Paltrow symbolically countersued for a $1, claiming that Sanderson caused the accident and forced her to miss a day of skiing, a “very costly” inconvenience.

The case went to trial in March 2023, drawing a ton of media attention for a few reasons: Paltrow’s star power, the absurdity of the whole argument (which many found hilarious) and, of course, the actress’ signature vibe throughout it all—her super-chill attitude and top-tier trial outfits.

In the end, the jury sided with Paltrow and awarded her $1, adding an extra layer of comedy to the entire affair.

Clearly, the skiing incident—now a global sensation—still resonates with the masses: Gwyneth Goes Skiing, a musical comedy about the scandal that had a run in London and Park City, is now playing at the SoHo Playhouse at 15 Vandam Street through Sunday. You can grab tickets right here.

Written by real-life couple Linus Karp and Joseph Martin (who also star as, respectively, Paltrow and Sanderson), the Off-Broadway production features songs by drag star Leland, remotely sung by Glee icon Darren Criss and Cat Cohen. Drag queen Trixie Mattel make also makes a cameo as Paltrow’s mom, Blythe Danner.

Speaking of which, although the scandal became iconic for just about anyone with an Internet connection, it quickly became legend within the LGBTQ community.

“When a blonde Hollywood star enters a small-town district court in the Utah mountains, with the glamour, grace, and goopiness that she did, the queers have no choice but to stan—and will appreciate the moment better than any straight person ever could, no offense,” Karp and Martin told Page Six via email.

Gwyneth Paltrow going skiing is, clearly, the gift that keeps on giving.

Forecasters Predict Punxsutawney Phil Will See His Shadow This Year

Though it’s not the most popular holiday of the year, Groundhog Day can be an exciting time when the winter stretch seems endless and there’s hope of an early spring on the horizon.

Each February 2nd, those who follow the holiday anxiously await to hear whether the central figure of the celebration, Punxsutawney Phil, sees his shadow or not. If a shadow is seen, that means there will be six more weeks of winter. If Phil does not see his shadow (the outcome most people wish to occur), that means an early spring is ahead.

We won’t know his answer until the morning of, but The Old Farmer’s Almanac has made a few predictions of their own for this year. They believe winter is here to stay, resulting in Phil seeing his shadow, therefore, declaring six more weeks of winter.

Yet, New York has its very own Staten Island Chuck—who notoriously disagrees with Phil except for last year.

Punxsutawney Phil currently has a 40% accuracy rate, according to the NOAA. However, the Staten Island Zoo claims that Chuck has an 80% accuracy rate. I guess we’ll have to just wait and see who the better weatherman is…(our money’s on Chuck!)

The Old Farmer’s Almanac predicts a ‘warmer than usual’ spring. Beyond Groundhog Day, February is also Black History Month and host to Valentine’s Day. But until then, here’s everything you should do in NYC this January!

Musical Performances, Free Admission, & More Will Celebrate 75 Years Of Wollman Rink

A critical piece to NYC’s ice skating rink puzzle, the iconic Wollman Rink has been welcoming New Yorkers and tourists alike to to glide around inside of what feels like a gorgeous snow globe in the heart of Central Park since 1950. And this January, the rink will kick off a year-long celebration of 75 years!

To take you back in time a bit, a press release writes how ice skating has always been part of Central Park’s DNA, and that Olmsted and Vaux’s original plan labeled The Lake as a “skating pond” even before Central Park’s completion in the 1870s. So when the rink did open, it wasn’t a surprise how quickly it became a popular wintertime activity.

Bret Pidgeon, General Manager of Wollman Rink, stated:

When Wollman Rink opened in 1950, it was a pivotal moment for outdoor recreation in New York City. The opening of Wollman Rink provided skaters with a safe and accessible space to create lasting memories on the ice, which is a legacy that has been present over the last 75 years and one we hope to continue for years to come.

Throughout its lifetime the rink has been the site of many incredible events, from transforming into a pickleball paradise and a funky roller disco to hosting NYC’s inaugural We Belong Here festival. But the fun isn’t stopping there.

Beginning this weekend, Wollman Rink will kick off a lineup of themed events and programming that will take place throughout the year. First up: a nostalgia-laced party on Saturday, January 25th that invites visitors to step back in time with rollback pricing on skating admission, an interactive photographic journey through Wollman Rink’s storied history, and festive treats.

The first 75 partygoers to purchase tickets at the door on Saturday will receive FREE skating admission, compared to the typical $27 admission price. And to keep you energized for a full day of fun, a retro-inspired candy bar will take skaters on a sweet journey through the last seven decades, and the Café located in The Clubhouse will also be serving complimentary hot chocolate, an ice skating staple!

The Skating Club of New York and Ice Theatre of New York will also perform a special routine at both 12 pm and 2 pm, mirroring the performance put on by figure skaters from the Junior Skating Club of New York 75 years ago on Wollman Rink’s opening day in 1950.

Beyond this weekend, future events will be announced on Wollman Rink’s website. Don’t miss your chance to celebrate 75 years of the iconic Wollman Rink!
