What is “We Call It A Cappella”?

“We Call It A Cappella” blends impressive harmonies with a lush bed of wildflowers, giving audiences a one-of-a-kind and immersive musical experience. These a cappella performances will take you on a journey through popular songs packed with emotion from the last few decades, such as “Fly Me to the Moon”, “Hallellujah”, “Someone Like You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody”. As you sit in a joyful setting provided by the colorful flowers that adorn the stage, four gifted vocalists dressed in fine attire will give their take on these fan-favorites and many more.

A bit of a cappella history, the voices and the show

With roots in early Christian religious music, a cappella (eng. in the church style) transcended the sacred settings and became a popular art form in Renaissance choral music.

As time went by, it witnessed a renewed interest by the end of the 19th and early 20th century, influencing singers in Ivy League universities, as well as other genres like barbershop and doo-wop. What’s more, because a cappella seeks to evoke emotions, it continues to thrive today, often being depicted in movies and TV shows like Pitch Perfect and Glee. Similarly, “We Call It A Cappella” celebrates a cappella’s comeback with a diverse program and wildflowers, adding an element of surprise and wonder.

This sensational live music concert is brought to you by the creators of “We Call It Flamenco”, a fiery show that brings the Andalusian tablaos to NYC, showcasing the very best of the passionate art form.

By contrast, at “We Call It A Cappella” there is only singing involved. You can discover what the human voice can do through impressive vocal techniques on selected dates starting October at The Sheen Center. There are two back-to-back performances set for 6:30 pm and 9:00 pm and doors open 30 minutes prior to the start of each show.
