Check out these insane videos of water flooding into the Queens Midtown Tunnel earlier today

Here’s a true New York nightmare: earlier today, actual water from the East River started flooding the Queens Midtown Tunnel, after a contractor accidentally drilled a hole into the roof of the structure.

Once officials got to the scene, they immediately shut down the passageway for about 45 minutes, causing immense traffic during the midday rush hour.

Authorities reopened one lane in each direction of the tunnel around 3pm, over two hours after the hole was reportedly drilled, but residual traffic continued to cause some mayhem for a few more hours.

“A drilling contractor, who was performing investigative work related to the design of the upcoming U.N. esplanade project – this is something that will ultimately continue the East River waterfront – was doing work in the East River, and accidentally perforated a small amount in the outside edge of the Queens-Midtown Tunnel,” said Josh Kraus, executive vice president and chief infrastructure officer of the New York City Economic Development Corporation, in an official statement.

The MTA announced that a temporary plug has been put into place but, according to ABC 7, “crews will come back and do a more permanent repair.”

You can only imagine the sort of panic that the situation caused as drivers made their way through the tunnel unaware of the issue before authorities reached the area.

Here are some of the most insane videos showing the leak from inside the shaft:

Find A New Route: Queens-Midtown Tunnel Traffic Expected To Be Heavy After Partial Reopening

Queens-Midtown Tunnel traffic can be hectic on a good day, but the MTA warned evening commuters on Wednesday, September 4th to expect more traffic and congestion than usual.

A water issue caused the Queens-Midtown Tunnel  to close on Wednesday around 1:30pm. According to a press meeting with NYC Mayor Adams and Josh Kraus, the Chief Infrastructure Officer at NYCEDC, among other officials, a drilling contractor who was performing investigative work for the design of the UN Esplanade project perforated the outside edge of the tunnel.

Kraus noted that the information shared is still preliminary and investigation into how and why this happened is ongoing. More information will be made available to the public as it is uncovered.

Queens-Midtown Tunnel traffic update

Though the north tube of the tunnel has reopened, now might be a good time to come up with a Plan B, as the south side still remains closed.

“The MTA is actively pumping water out and two-way traffic has resumed at the north tube,” New York Governor Kathy Hocul said in a statement. “The south tube is still being assessed. Please exercise caution if you’re in the area and plan alternate travel routes.”

Subway usage is highly encouraged by the mayor and his team. (Especially if you’re traveling to the US Open tonight.)

According to the MTA, expect traffic on the east side of Manhattan due to this issue. Bus routes that will be greatly impacted include the M:15, 15-SBS, 34-SBS, 34A-SBS, M42, M50.

What’s more, QM 1/2/3/4/5/6/10/12/20/24/31/32/34/36/40/42/44 buses will use the 59th St Bridge to proceed to the LIE in both directions, per the MTA, and QM 7/8/11/25 buses will head toward the Williamsburg Bridge.

More up-to-date information will be made available on the MTA social media accounts.

You Can Get Queso Donuts From This Sought After Filipino Bakery That Sells Out Each Week

Ube, leche flan, guava, calamansi, and cheddar (and that’s a separate flavor than the queso!) are just some of the flavors you’ll find on the menu at Filipino-American bakery Kora who, it goes without saying, is cooking up some creative treats.

Eleven Madison Park and Union Square Hospitality alums, Kimberly Camara and Kevin Borja, are the ones behind the bakery which got its start in the summer of 2020. After both losing their jobs during the pandemic Camara serendipitously decided to fry a batch of brioche dough instead of baking it, and over time Kora grew from two home-fryers in Camara’s Woodside apartment kitchen to selling their donuts out of Alewife Brewing.

The donuts are made using authentic Filipino ingredients and are Camara’s way to share Filipino cuisine, incorporating her grandmother’s recipes, through a pastry that everyone could enjoy. And New Yorkers certainly enjoy them–within months of baking they had garnered a waitlist of 10,000 people and they regularly sell out by the end of the day, sometimes not even lasting longer than five minutes.

But let’s get into the sweet stuff: the actual donuts.

Their flavors change each month so you’ll have to check their site to see what’s currently available. Some flavors you can expect include Leche Flan ni Lola, fried brioche filled with flan cream and Lola Corazon’s beloved flan, Ube, fried ube brioche, ube custard, ube glaze, and purple yam crisps, Sampalok Apple Fritter, honeycrisp apple brioche fritter and tamarind caramel glaze, and Manila Cream, fried brioche, Auro 64% dark chocolate glaze, and Auro 32% white chocolate vanilla bean cremeux.

They also have since introduced other pastries to their menu such as pies, cream puffs, and delicious cookies in flavors including Banana and Caramelized White Chocolate, Coco Jam Alfajor, Calamansi Cornmeal and Rosemary, and Ube and Coconut.

In order to get your hands on a box of their treats you’ll have to pre-order them on Saturdays at 6 pm for pickup the following weekend. If you miss the preorder they do have a limited amount of orders available for walk-ins, but you’ll need to get there early as a line typically begins to form before they even open.

And the best part: you’ll soon you’ll be able to pick yourself up a box of their donuts in Sunnyside, Queens where they’ll be opening a permanent bakery at 45-12 Greenpoint Avenue! The team recently launched a Kickstarter to help them get to the finish line by end of year.

Those looking to learn more about Filipino culture through Kora’s delicious donuts can head to their website or Instagram to check out the current available flavors and place an order.

Anna Delvey Joins ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 33 In A Move No One Saw Coming

Our favorite fake German heiress Anna Delvey, Dancing With The Stars‘ newest contestant, certainly keeps the surprises coming.

Delvey, whose real name is Anna Sorokin, swindled wealthy New Yorkers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in 2019 for the fabricated Anna Delvey Foundation, her private club and art foundation. An in-depth New York Magazine article exposed the story, and a fictionalized Netflix series, Inventing Anna, followed the dramatic saga.

Now, after being convicted, serving a prison sentence, remaining on house arrest, plotting a TV series Dining With Anna from her East Village apartment (among other creative projects), Anna is dipping her toe into the dancing world.

The announcement came on Good Morning America on September 4th, and needless to say, fans of DWTS were not necessarily expecting this addition to the show’s 33rd season, which airs on September 17th.

data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/C_fuEAUOEor/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

“I kind of got talked into doing this. I got the permission from ICE [U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement] and then it was kind of too late to back out,” she told The Hollywood Reporter after the news broke.

Now, Delvey is looking forward to getting in a workout in as she partners with Ezra Sosa. And yes, her ankle monitor will remain on throughout the competition, and she does face the possibility of deportation.

According to the Associated Press, she could travel within 70 miles of her home base and anywhere in the five boroughs of New York City under previous house arrest conditions.

It’ll definitely make for an interesting season, and we’re certainly adding this to our list of things to do this September — any New Yorker would agree. Let’s see if she can swindle the judges into a top spot. Would someone pass the popcorn? Please and thanks.
