This Will Be The Hottest European Destination Of Summer 2025, We’re Calling It Now

Better start practicing your Spanish because we’re calling it now that the hottest European destination of summer 2025 will be *drumroll please,* Spain!

As we know, it seemed everyone and their mother was sun-bathing in Corfu or partying in Paros this summer. The year prior, everyone couldn’t stop signing off their emails with “Ciao!” or “Arrivederci” after their two weeks in Roma or cruising the Amalfi Coast. And with summer 2025 ahead, we’re predicting a paella party in Madrid and beach visits in Barcelona, with everyone booking trips to none other than Spain.

So what makes us so sure that Spain is where everyone will be jet setting off to? Well, American Airlines just announced a brand new nonstop route to Madrid, Spain after predicting a spike in trans-Atlantic travel for spring/summer 2025. The new route departs from Chicago to Madrid, beginning March 30, 2025.

Beyond the Madrid flight, passengers headed on American Airlines vacations can choose from additional European destinations with new routes including direct flights to Italy, Scotland and Greece. Other European routes include:

✈ Philadelphia to Milan – starting May 23

✈ Philadelphia to Edinburgh – starting May 23

✈  Charlotte to Athens – starting June 5

✈  Miami to Rome – starting July 5

Of course, Italy and Greece will still be some of the top destinations for summer 2025. Even Brian Znotins, American’s senior vice president of network planning, agrees stating “In ’23 when people saw this demand to Italy and Greece, some people speculated that it was a one-year thing. But then this year, that strength just kept going and our flights are full and the yields are strong…More capacity is warranted to address the demand.”

But back to Spain, tourism figures are expected to exceed 2024 predictions with a total of 90 million international travelers projected to visit Spain by the end of this year. Caixa Bank Research predicts this booming growth will continue into 2025. Furthermore, ForwardKeys data shows that Spain saw a 12% increase in international arrivals between July and August 2024, compared to the year before.

If you do end up booking your summer vacation to Spain, don’t forget to consult with our friends over at Madrid Secreto and Barcelona Secreta for a local’s guide to the best things to do while you’re there.

You Should Wait Until This Time To Book Your Holiday Flights, Google Says

Though we want to pretend that the cold, harsh winter is light years away, the first frost in NYC is steadily approaching and so is the time to book your holiday flights before they jack up the prices!

We’ve all been there. It’s September and you’re still grasping with the fact that summer is ending. Then comes October, when you’re stressed out about your Halloween costume and plans. Next thing you know, you’re sitting at the Thanksgiving table and now you’re scrambling for last minute holiday flights in December. So, let’s try and not do that this year—especially since NYC has been known to be one of the worst U.S. cities for holiday travel.

According to annual travel trends from Google Flights, the smartest time to book, of course, is usually well in advance. This goes for both Thanksgiving and Christmas fares. However, since flights change by the day, prices can vary at any time. Therefore, Google took a deeper look into four years of their historical flight data to determine some trends in cheap holiday travel.

When should you book your flights for Thanksgiving?

Google Flights say the ideal time to book your domestic flights for Thanksgiving is 45 days before your departure date, as they’ve historically seen the lowest airfare prices at that time. This trend of low prices typically occurs within a 26-59 days out range. This means that for those looking to travel a few days before and after Thanksgiving, early October is your best time to book.

When should you book your flights for Christmas?

As for Christmas, Google Flights found that the cheapest domestic flights can be booked 58 days before your departure date. However, the trend of low prices can be found anywhere within a 36-72 days out range. So just shortly after booking your Thanksgiving flights, you’ll want to secure your Christmas airfare too at the end of October.

Of course, if you celebrate holidays other than Christmas, like Hanukah (which begins on Christmas Day) or Kwanzaa (which begins the day after Christmas), you can apply the same strategy, as they’re all around the same dates.

What is the cheapest day to book flights?

Tuesday has been known to be the cheapest day to book flights. However, Google Flights noted that it’s only 1.3% cheaper than the most expensive day to book, which is Sunday.

What are the cheapest days to fly?

Historically speaking, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday are the cheapest days to fly out. Passengers can save 13% by flying out on those days, rather than a Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

What are other tips for scoring cheap flights?

Additional tips for scoring the best price on your flight include choosing a layover instead of a direct route. Nonstop flights average about 25% more expensive than trips with layovers.

Fall Foliage Cruises Near NYC To Hop Aboard This Autumn

If you’re craving more than your annual apple picking excursion, why not head out to sea for a fall foliage cruise?

Nothing compares to New York’s waterfront scenery, especially when the leaves begin to change. (Speaking of which, we just learned when fall foliage will peak in NYC.)

If you’re itching to get out of town for a few hours and want to revel in Mother Nature’s autumnal glory, the Hudson River is home to plenty of picturesque routes that will leave you feeling cozy in no time.

1. Seastreak Cruises

data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/reel/CywLDR7g1ir/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

You’ll be green with envy if you miss the red, gold, and orange leaves along Seastreak’s Fall Foliage Cruises to destinations like Cold Spring, New York and Milton, New York. Tours, which leave from NYC and New Jersey, include a narrated guide to the surroundings.

We’re particularly enamored with the Seastreak Fall Foliage Brunch Cruise up the Hudson River. You can munch on a buffet of danishes, bagels, and fruit, to name a few bites, as scenes from Hastings-on-the-Hudson all the way up to West Point pass you by. Tickets are $139 per person and the tour runs on Saturdays and Sundays from October 6 to November 3.

2. Circle Line Cruises

data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/reel/C_OjyFkhG3w/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

Bet you didn’t think any Oktoberfest celebrations would take place on the water, right? Circle Line Cruises will make the most of the seasonal event and throw in a gorgeous boat ride to boot. Hop on the four-hour long Hudson River Fall Foliage Cruise from Pier 83 in Midtown for a day filled with live music, German-themed bites, and beautiful surroundings. Cheers to an afternoon outdoors with an Oktoberfest beer. Tickets start at $59, and the event will only take place on October 19 and 20.

Should you really want to pack a punch, Circle Line also offers an annual eight-hour Bear Mountain Cruise that includes all of the same events — plus a hike. It’s offered multiple times throughout the season, so fear not. If you’re keen on splitting up a cruise and those strenuous steps up a mountain, plan your next outdoor adventure with our favorite stunning hiking trails near NYC.

3. Classic Harbor Line Cruises

data-instgrm-permalink="https://www.instagram.com/p/CwjhiUmsHym/?utm_source=ig_embed&utm_campaign=loading" data-instgrm-version="14" style=" background:#FFF; border:0; border-radius:3px; box-shadow:0 0 1px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.5),0 1px 10px 0 rgba(0,0,0,0.15); margin: 1px; max-width:540px; min-width:326px; padding:0; width:99.375%; width:-webkit-calc(100% - 2px); width:calc(100% - 2px);">

Step outside of the city and back in time when you board Classic Harbor Line’s 1920s-style Manhattan I and Manhattan II. The Cruise Line offers fall foliage tours with brunch or lunch, both of which include complimentary cocktails and a narrated guide of the environment. The cruises run on Saturdays and Sundays from October 12 to November 10. Tickets range from $124-$142.

Once you dock, our fall NYC bucket list will give you the heads up on all of the can’t-miss seasonal activities on land.

You will now have cell service between stations on the 42nd Street Shuttle

You will now have cell service between stations on the 42nd Street Shuttle

Here is some excellent news for you cellphone addicts: the 42nd Street Shuttle, which runs between Grand Central Terminal and Times Square in midtown Manhattan, is now equipped with a cell network—which means you’ll get to scroll through Instagram or make some calls in-between stations while inside the trains.

“This is a major step forward in modernizing our transit system, whether it’s checking email, answering a phone call, people want to be able to do work on the mass transit system,” MTA Chair Janno Lieber said during an official press conference. “And we also have to recognize there’s a lot of people who want to play Candy Crush or continue their domestic arguments, and we have to accommodate them as well.”

The effort is part of a larger project by the MTA to add 5G connectivity throughout the entire underground transportation system. They hope to wrap up the plans  by 2032—so we’re still a pretty long time away from headaches induced by people chatting loudly on their devices while riding the train.

Gothamist reports that the project is part of a $600 million deal with Boldyn Network, the company that will install the system “at no cost to the MTA.”

Next up: the 4 and 5 subway lines that connect Brooklyn and Manhattan through an East River tunnel.

MTA construction chief Jamie Torres-Springer revealed that those upgrades will likely be completed by the middle of next year. After that, officials will start concentrating on the 4, 5, and 6 routes between Grand Central Terminal and the Bronx.

As excited as we are about this, we can only imagine what sorts of shutdowns and delays will come along with the execution of the project (yes, we are still scarred from this summer’s G train shutdown).
