Hudson Yards Is Getting A Green Space The Size Of Bryant Park
In the midst of all the excitement, a proposed Hudson Yards park has seemingly gone under the radar.
Just a few short weeks ago, renters began signing up for the buzzy Hudson Yards affordable housing units. (Studios start at a staggering $1,655.)
Then, New Yorkers’ ears perked up with the mention of the proposed Hudson Yards casino. Within that $12 billion undertaking is a new green space.
All about the new Hudson Yards park, Hudson Green
Part of the proposed project is to build Hudson Yards West on top of the undeveloped western rail yards. This includes the casino, new housing units, a new public school, and a bucolic respite for New Yorkers, comparable in size to Bryant Park.
“At the center of it all is Hudson Green, a 5.6-acre rolling green park with incredible river vistas, hundreds of trees for hot summer days, gardens, a playground and a dog park,” Jeff T. Blau, CEO of Related Companies, said in a statement. “We truly believe it will be an oasis that becomes the new calling card of the neighborhood.”
The public park overlooking the Hudson River will be created by Hollander Design and Sasaki, as part of a master plan designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM), per the press release.
What’s more, visitors can expect over 300 trees, 500 shrubs, flower beds, and native plantings. Plus, kiddos will be delighted to explore a new NYC playground.
This news of public green space arrives at an interesting time in New York’s history, as Mayor Eric Adams vows to “put the ‘park’ back in Park Avenue” and the Elizabeth Street Garden faces demolition.
As more information develops on this new park in NYC, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.

An ‘Amusement Park Of Contemporary Art’ Showcasing Basquiat, Dalí, & Haring Heads To The Shed
The Shed recently announced their new 2024-2025 season features, and Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy is sure to be one of the art center‘s monumental works.
Depicting the world’s first art amusement park, the large-scale installation will feature a “riotous fun house of carnival rides and attractions by visionary artists of the 20th century.” These esteemed artists include: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Sonia Delaunay and more.
We all remember The Sheds’ Particular Matter(s), the massive spider web suspended 40 feet above ground, that wowed audiences, and Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy will be no different.
Luna Luna can be described as a “travelling amusement park of contemporary art,” deemed the website of artist and mastermind behind Luna Luna, André Heller. It originally debuted in Hamburg, Germany back in 1987. The spectacle involved rides, games, and attractions by aforementioned visionaries such as Hockney and Lichtenstein.
Yet, “a twist of fate” led the beautiful artifacts to be forgotten and sealed away for the next three decades within 44 shipping containers in the state of Texas. But now, New Yorkers will be privy to the sight of these wondrous treasures after 30+ long years.

Beyond it’s sheer magnetism, the multi-sensory experience will host tons of activations and special concerts while on view. Though the list of performing artists has yet to be announced, we do know that Drake himself is an investor in Luna Luna…
In total, it should take visitors about 75 minutes to enjoy the entire experience that will takeover The Shed’s McCourt and Level 2 Gallery.
It’s the “most fantastical fairground the world has ever known,” explains The Shed.
Tickets will be available to purchase online by the public on Thursday, September 19th. Shed members will have advanced access to tickets.
545 W 30th St, New York (The Shed)

New Yorkers dish on their favorite spots ruined by TikTok
For better or worse (mostly worse), we live in the era of the influencer, so having your once favorite local spot blown up on TikTok and flooded by tourists is becoming an increasingly common and exasperating experience.
There are some telltale signs of virality: you might notice massive crowds materialize out of nowhere and places that once took walk-in appointments will suddenly be booked weeks in advance. Rest assured that you will witness cackles of teenage girls with their phones out, eager to let everyone know that they, too, know about your former super secret spot.
The good news is that the social media viral cycle is fleeting, so there is hope yet.
We asked Time Out readers which of their favorite spots have been ruined by TikTok. Here’s what they said.
Washington Street in Brooklyn
Once upon a time, DUMBO used to be a tranquil haven for local artists. Now, it’s influencer central, thanks in large part to the view of the Manhattan Bridge and Empire State Building from Washington Street. Unless you live under a rock, you’ve definitely seen pictures of your least favorite influencer on this street and, if you’re unlucky enough to walk past it in real life, you will have probably noticed herds of tourists blocking the street to snap a photo, making it damn near impossible for cars and commuters to pass through.
Wa Fung No. 1 Fast Food
Wa Fung No. 1 used to be a discrete mom and pop shop in Chinatown that locals went to for some of the best roast pork in the city. Those days are long gone. On any given day, the lines outside Wa Fung No. 1 stretch out for at least half a block, mostly made up of tourists from Europe. For that, you can blame a series of viral TikToks that, let’s be honest, give the venue the attention it deserves. If you happen to stop by, rest assured that the slow cooked sweet roast pork over rice is worth a wait.
The Met
From one of our top responders on Threads: “People at The Met doing multiple takes being filmed pretending to look at the art and the second they stop filming they move on. People would rather look smart and cultured than be smart and cultured I guess.” Mic drop.
Hamido Seafood in Astoria
Hamido Seafood already attracted crowds before TikTok became popular in the U.S., but the social media app definitely made it even more renowned. Hamido is part seafood market and part restaurant. Walk in, select the fresh fish you are in the mood for from behind the counter and watch the chefs cook it for you. A recent viral video featuring the restaurant boasts millions of views on TikTok and more than 800,000 likes. That’s our way of saying good luck trying to get in.
The Joker Staircase in the Bronx
For a long time, the Bronx lacked a recognizable landmark to attract large crowds of tourists. That is no longer the case thanks to both social media and the 2019 Joker movie scene in which the protagonist, played by Joaquin Phoenix, dances mischievously down some steep stairs that fans immediately realized are part of the Shakespeare Stairs in the Bronx.
Times Square Olive Garden
We honestly couldn’t tell if you guys were trolling us, but many respondents agreed that the Olive Garden in Times Square has been ruined by TikTok. We’re confused why any local would go to the chain eatery considering that New York is home to some of the best and most authentic Italian food in the country, but we also understand that, sometimes, it’s nice to experience something different… even if the novelty is far worse than what you already have.
Smorgasburg on Saturdays
Smorgasburg has never been a secret, but it’s also never been as crowded as it is these days. We would understand if you’d prefer to skip it in exchange for the many smaller and just as worthy outdoor food festival and night markets around the city—but just in case you want to go, here’s our guide to it.
The Tramway on Roosevelt Island
It’s hard to get moving aerial views of Manhattan without getting on a helicopter or landing at LaGuardia at the right time, so when the Roosevelt Island Tramway became popular on social media, it was only a matter of time before it got swarmed by eager influencers. Before its huge popularity, it was the most hassle free way for Roosevelt Island residents to get to the island and it only costs $2.90 each way, the same as riding the subway. TikTokers recommend going during sunset, which means you should probably avoid doing that at all costs.
Biden & Harris Expected To Visit New York Tomorrow In Remembrance Of 9/11
September 11, 2024 will mark the 23rd anniversary of the devastating 2001 attacks. From the annual “Tribute in Light” to the September 11, 2001 Commemoration and all other ways New York is remembering 9/11, it’s believed the President and Vice President will make an appearance in NYC as well.
Harris will already be on the East Coast for tonight’s presidential debate happening in Philadelphia, and President Biden is expected to join her tomorrow in New York City. Biden had spent last year’s anniversary on an Alaskan military base after making a stop at all three sites in 2021. Meanwhile, Harris has observed the anniversary in NYC for the past two years.
“You will see the president and vice president next week together as they mourn the thousands of lives that were lost on that day and also the first responders who obviously put their lives on the line to protect Americans on that day,” shared White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre.
Local political leader’s whereabouts, including Governor Kathy Hochcul and Mayor Eric Adams, have yet to be confirmed for tomorrow.
For anyone interested in watching the 23rd Commemoration tomorrow morning, it will begin at 8:30am on Memorial plaza and can be streamed here.
At night, keep your eyes out for the Tribute in Light that will shine two commemorative blue beams into NYC skies from dusk until dawn. Not nearby Lower Manhattan? No worries, you’ll be able to see the lights from a 60-mile radius.

Where to watch the presidential debate in NYC tonight
Tonight is the night: after weeks of preparation, Republican nominee and former President Donald Trump and Democratic prospect Vice President Kamala Harris will take the stage during the first—and, likely, only—presidential debate, which is being held at National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
Given the intensity of the race and the current political climate, we suspect that catching the event alongside fellow New Yorkers (perhaps, with a beer or two in hand) might ease your nerves a bit.
To that intent, here are some of best places to watch tonight’s presidential debate in NYC:
The fancy midtown rooftop bar is likely going to get rowdy tonight, when guests step into the private room overlooking NYC to catch the watch party, set to begin at 9pm. You might want to order a bunch of handcrafted cocktails and a ton of food to ease your nerves while taking in the event.
Four of the beer hall’s locations (90 Washington Street in the Financial District, 16 West 36th Street and 230 East 51st Street in midtown, 601 East 189th Street in the Bronx) will be hosting a debate night watch party starting 8:30pm tonight. Guests will get to order $5 wines and house beers complemented by solid bar food—think oversized pretzels and burgers.
From 8pm to 11pm tonight, the Union Square bar at 122 East 83rd Street will be hosting all those interested in the debate. Keep in mind that there is a two-drink minimum for the evening.
Grand Army at 336 State Street near Boerum Hill is inviting everyone to tonight’s viewing party, which will also be attended by local councilman Lincoln Restler. Enjoy happy hour specials all evening long and keep in mind that part of the profits will be used to help Democrat Laura Gillen flip a Long Island seat in Congress.
Perhaps the best view of the debate tonight will come courtesy of Slate at 54 West 21st Street. The bar has set up a massive 15-foot LED HD video wall alongside a Funktion-One sound system, so you’ll be sure to hear all the snickering and bickering that’s bound to define the much-anticipated political event. Bonus points: happy hour prices apply all evening long.
Downtowners are likely to flock to 149 Bleecker Street to catch the political smackdown and play a very fun game during the shenanigans: you’re going to have to take a sip of your drink every time one of the nominees avoids answering the presented question. You’re sure to be drunk in no time. RSVP right here.
This brick wall in Williamsburg has become a hot spot for singles
Every New Yorker has been on a date where they feel like they’re talking to a brick wall—finding genuine connection can feel impossible in part because the city is filled with big egos and those suffering from chronic Main Character Syndrome.
But what if talking to a brick wall was actually a vehicle for finding love all along? That’s what is quite literally happening in a Brooklyn park, where singles are posting pictures of themselves in the hopes of finding their next big love.
RECOMMENDED: A forgotten carnival filled with colorful attractions is being resurrected at The Shed
The in-person dating app is set up at McCarren Park in Williamsburg, and you have to scan a QR code to make a suggested donation of $25 to begin. The participating singles then get two photos taken on a polaroid, and one of them is posted on the singles wall while the other is theirs to keep as a memory. The singles are also asked to fill out little “cupid cards,” as they’re being called, with information about them that might be relevant to a potential suitor, such as their age, gender and sexual orientation. They also list some identifying factors like “energetic” and “likes to travel.” The heavy lifting of pairing strangers together is up to the organizers—Vaishnavi Sesetty, 23, and Cyrus Belsoi, 25, co-founders of a dating app called Pique.
Pique is designed to “make dating fun and easy again.”
“Our hope is to revolutionize the way people approach love, romance, and dating and bring the human back in human connection,” Sesetty tells Time Out. “We currently have 1.5k users in the Pique community, and our next goal is to get funding so that we can continue to spread Pique and our mission throughout New York and beyond,” Belsoi adds.
The brick dating wall has been around for a little more than a month, and so far it’s proven to be a success: it’s clear that people are tired of endlessly swiping through anonymous profiles on apps, and we’ve finally caught on to the fact that we’re probably not going to find much meaningful connection that way. I spoke with Street Hearts host Tiff Baira in February about this very situation.
“I’ve even seen people start talking to somebody that they found attractive from the space from being here because they have such a confidence boost, you know sit down for 20-30 minutes and walk away with a date,” PictureManBob, the person who takes all the polaroids, told FOX 5.
Although the trend is a novelty in New York, there’s other parts of the world where these sort of dating endeavors are common practice. In Shanghai, for example, the People’s Park in the center of the city has a “Marriage Market” where parents and grandparents display their single children and grandchildren in the hopes of finding them reliable suitors.
You can check out Williamsburg’s singles wall every Saturday and Sunday from noon until 8pm and is located across the park’s tennis courts. Indeed, desperate times call for even more desperate measures, but once you find your match, it’ll all have been worth it.
