Airbnb Is Letting You Duel Like A Gladiator In Rome’s Legendary Colosseum—For FREE
No this is not a dream, Airbnb is actually inviting guests into Rome’s iconic Colosseum for an extra special experience inspired by the new film Gladiator II, starring heartthrob Paul Mescal.
Maybe one of the most unique experiences Airbnb has yet to offer, 16 guests will be able to attend one of two, three-hour sessions on May 7th to 8th, 2025 at absolutely no cost!
The experience begins at sunset, inviting eight guests and their plus ones to descend into the hypogeum, the colosseum’s underground network of tunnels and chambers that gladiators used to ready for battle in.
Guests won’t just feel like a gladiator; they’ll look like one too, donning the traditional armor of their chosen gladiator type—be it thraex (one of the most famous), murmillo, provocator, retiarius, or contrarete.
Visitors will walk along the same pathways once marched by countless of warriors before them as they navigate their way through the often unseen, torch-lit corridors of the Colosseum.
Fuel up for the experience ahead with an assortment of grapes, pomegranates, almonds and walnuts. But heed Airbnb’s warning: “Overindulgence will dull your senses and slow your reflexes.”
No visit to this iconic landmark would be complete without seeing professional gladiators face off in a duel. Watch closely, as the showdown will be essential to your training before you face off your fellow gladiators against the most legendary backdrop imaginable.
Don’t worry, your summa rudis (referree) will be there during every step to ensure your fate is well deserved in hopes of a triumphant victory.
“Think you have what it takes to become the supreme gladiator?” asks Lucius, Mescal’s character in Gladiator II, and your host for the experience. “This trial will separate the weak from the strong, where only those with true strength and honor will rise above. You can book this experience starting November 27th, 2024 at 6pm PT through 11:59pm on December 9th, 2024 on Airbnb. Travel to and from Rome will not be provided.
