After Nearly 10 Years Coney Island Brewery Is Shutting Its Doors

As we helped Coney Island celebrate its 200th birthday last week, one thing we didn’t wish for when blowing out the candles was that Coney Island Brewery would shut its doors, but alas that’s what’s happening.

An Instagram post from the brewery reads:

We have some news to share with our beloved community. After a decade of unforgettable moments, we’ve made the tough business decision to close our taproom in Coney Island on Nov. 9.⁣

Brooklyn Magazine states that financial difficulties are to blame for the closure, as a combination of the seasonality of the area and high costs of operating the taproom have made it impossible to turn a profit for the last several years.

The post continued on to say:

To our cherished community partners, and to every incredible guest who has visited our taproom over the past 10 unforgettable years, there are not enough words to encapsulate our gratitude. Whether you danced like a Mermaid in the streets, rocked out to live performances, or shared a tale or two over a pint, you’ve made our journey truly special – THANK YOU for the countless memories.⁣

On the bright side, though the taproom is closing the brews will live on. New Yorkers will still be able to get their favorites like Mermaid Pilsner and Merman IPA at bars, restaurants, and retail locations.

And for those who’d like to celebrate one last hurrah, the brewery shares that they’ve still got a lot of great stuff planned for the next few weeks.

In fact, they’ll be hosting a Taproom Closing Party this Saturday, November 4th, from 4 p.m – 9 p.m. (and you can sign away your sorrows during live karaoke from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.)

The good news is it seems to be true that as one door closes another door opens–Coney Island’s Luna Park is gearing up to be open during the winter for the first time ever! So at least we have that to look forward to!
