Affordable German Grocery Store, Lidl, To Open A Downtown Brooklyn Location
German grocery chain Lidl, known for their “suspiciously low-priced” grocery store items, is set to open a 30,000-square-foot location in Downtown Brooklyn next year (2025).
According to the Brooklyn Paper, the chain recently signed a long-term lease to take over the storefront currently occupied by the Express Factory Outlet.
And this won’t be Brooklyn’s only Lidl either–the borough’s first location was announced back in August 2022, set to replace a former Park Slope Key Food this year, and a Crown Heights location is also in the works. Neither of these locations have exact opening dates yet.
According to Brooklyn Paper, Or Raitses, senior director of real estate for Lidl, stated:
Our reception in Manhattan and Queens has been outstanding. We appreciate the enthusiasm for Lidl throughout New York City and look forward to offering our award-winning products to customers in Brooklyn.
The first Lidl location opened in Ludwigshafen, Germany back in 1973, and expanded to the United States in 2017. They now operate more than 160 stores on the East Coast, and opened their newest NYC location in Queens Place Mall on Wednesday, January 24th.
Lidl is set to open at the Fulton Street Mall, located at 490 Fulton Street in Downtown Brooklyn, some time in 2025. The chain is also set to open a massive 23,000-square-foot Chelsea location in the same year.
