The First Airline To Operate Out Of JFK’s Brand New Terminal 6 Will Fly Travelers Straight To Tokyo
Though JFK was officially surpassed by LaGuardia as the 2024 world’s best airport, JFK has a huge project in the works that may help it climb back up the ranks: Terminal 6 (along with the airport’s first-ever airport lounge).
The brand new $4.2 billion terminal (T6) is expected to open in a couple of years and is set to blow travelers away with 2.4 million square feet (making it the airport’s largest terminal ever) worth of lounge space and retail dining–including several first-to-airport market brands–as well as curated public art and 23 new gates. Here’s more on what JFK’s largest terminal to date will look like.
And the airport now has more exciting news: it’s officially selected the first airline to make its home in T6.
JFK Millenium Partners (JMP), the company in charge of building and operating T6, officially announced that All Nippon Airways (ANA) will be among the first airlines to operate from the state-of-the-art terminal.
Founded in 1952 with just two helicopters, All Nippon Airways, an award-winning, Tokyo-based carrier, has grown to become the largest airline in Japan. The airline currently operates two daily nonstop flights from JFK’s Terminal 7 to Tokyo (Haneda) and has continuously served the New York market for over 30 years.
Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian Airlines, and Brussels Airlines will also serve as future JFK Terminal 6 airlines.
ANA Executive Vice President, The Americas, General Manager, New York, Toshio Nomura, stated:
New York is one of ANA’s most important markets, which we have served for over 30 years. We have long wanted to progress the customer experience at JFK, and it’s a great honor for us to welcome our customers to the new Terminal 6.
While we await T6 opening, here’s where to eat while awaiting your flight at JFK–just maybe don’t book a flight out of JFK for holiday travel (and if you do, prepare for over a mile-long trek to your gate).
