Bloomingdale’s holiday windows are getting a ‘Wicked’ twist

Bloomingdale's holiday windows are getting a ‘Wicked’ twist

It’s no secret that Bloomingdale’s goes above and beyond with transforming their store windows into winter wonderlands. In 2022, they had a “Best Holiday Ever” theme, complete with life-like mannequins, Lego creations and more. But last year’s partnership with Wonka took the cake: the collaborators built a candyland world with a chocolate fountain and colorful lollipops.

Keeping with the movie inspirations, this year’s facade is Wicked-themed, leaning into the enchantment and magical atmosphere of the upcoming movie musical that is already earning stellar reviews. In the various displays, you can find “gift picks” from iconic characters like Elphaba and Glinda represented in mannequin form, seasonal outfits in green and pink lightning and designs straight out of the Emerald City.

Since Saks announced that its legendary light show wouldn’t be returning, other department stores seemed to have stepped up their game. Bloomingdale’s kicked off this season last Sunday with an unveiling event, which featured appearances from the film’s star Cynthia Erivo, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt actor Tituss Burgess and other Broadway icons. A dance performance organized by Wicked’s choreographer Christopher Scott took place, while a small orchestra performed a medley from the film’s soundtrack.

Bloomingdale’s has gotten out ahead of several similarly popular holiday windows. As of today, there’s no word from Bergdorf Goodman about their beloved displays. There’s plenty else to look forward to, though, especially as Macy’s presents its windows later tonight, November 21. After 2023’s theme of “Give Love,” we’re looking forward to seeing what the chain’s Midtown flagship store goes with this year!
