New York Snowstorm Threatens To Disrupt Upcoming Holiday Travel
Though New York City has just declared its first drought warning in over two decades, the same cannot be said for other areas of the state. In fact, forecasters are predicting a powerful winter storm is en route with potential to disrupt Thanksgiving travel plans.
Upstate New York has already gotten a glimpse of snow in October, when ‘snowliage’ graced the Adirondacks before Halloween had even come! However, some areas of New York State are expected to see more snowfall this weekend.
According to a Facebook post from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), high winds, hazardous snow, and cold temperatures may strike east of the Rockies this weekend. Between November 21st through the 23rd, Northwest regions of New York can expect heavy snow, with high winds blowing over much of the state’s western and southern cities.
NOAA warns that the winter storm is predicted to intensify as it moves northeast. Though the risk of lake effect snow may be increased with this storm, “the uncertainty in the magnitude of cold air” could impact snow levels and types of precipitation.
The winter storm aligns perfectly with data from Northeast Regional Climate Centers that show historic first snowfalls in Buffalo, Rochester and Oswego around this time.

Although NYC won’t be seeing any snow this weekend, the city is estimated to receive its first snowfall of the season next month. However, with NYC’s current lack of precipitation we shall see how that turns out.
