These NYC Buildings And Landmarks Are Lighting Up For Election Day

Election Day has finally arrived, and though a record number of New Yorkers decided to vote early, the five boroughs are still buzzing with plenty of activity at polling stations and beyond.

As you might have expected, NYC attractions and buildings are also ringing in the monumental election by lighting up in patriotic colors. Here’s where we can expect to see glimmers of red, white, and blue on November 5th.

1. Rockefeller Center

Home to NBCU News Group, which provides live coverage of the election, Rockefeller Center typically transforms into “Democracy Plaza” during election cycles. Before the Rockefeller Center Christmas tree arrives this weekend (Saturday, November 9th) and provides a lively makeover, the Midtown spot will don red, white, and blue and transform at 30 Rockefeller Plaza as broadcast coverage streams from viewing screens.

2. The Empire State Building

While the Empire State Building is planning to light up in red, white, and blue, it will also provide live coverage as the results pour in. As swing states reveal their final results, the building will stay lit for five minutes in either red for the Republican party or blue for the Democratic party. Once the final results are in — a very big moment, not just for NYC, but the entire country — the Empire State will stay lit in red or blue for the winning party.
