European Flights Are The Cheapest In Three Years, So Book ASAP
Europe is calling, and the rates are unbelievably low. In other words, it’s time to book that European trip you’ve been holding out for because airfare is the cheapest it’s been in three whole years!
According to travel booking app, Hopper, round-trip tickets to Europe are currently averaging at $637. That’s a 15% decrease from this time last year. At this point, you’re practically losing money by not going—at least that’s the logic we’re using to excuse our impulsive travel bug.
If you really want to book smartly and maximize savings, Hopper recommends traveling in spring rather than summer. Spring airfare to Europe is 20% cheaper on average than in summer months, and since Hopper’s flight prediction is 95% accurate up to a year ahead of departure—it’s hard to argue with them.
The most popular European destinations for Millennials right now are London, Paris, Rome, Madrid and Amsterdam, in that order. London specifically is seeing some low airfare prices thanks to Brexit. With the British pound reaching the lowest trading rate it’s seen since the ’80s, money-conscious travelers will be more drawn to this European destination.
“Round-trip tickets from the US to London have been falling long term, and are likely to remain low in the short term,” wrote Hopper. “Prices respond to demand, so if there is a drop in tourists from the EU seeking to visit the UK post-Brexit, it could mean airlines will need to lower prices further to fill seats.”
That being said, European cities like Athens and Prague see the greatest amount of savings when booking in spring rather than summer. By choosing spring months for your Greece trip, you’ll see 23% cheaper fare than you would during summer months. Similar savings apply to the Czech Republic with 26% cheaper fare in spring time.
You can learn more from the study itself online at Hopper. And of course, if you do book a trip to Europe, be sure to stay up to date on all of the latest updates with ETIAS, a special travel authorization Americans will need in 2025.
