Does New York City Have A Christmas Parade?

November is officially here and December and the holidays are right around the corner…which means NYC is about to get totally Christmas-y!

There’s so many ways to celebrate the season in the Big Apple, from holiday markets to festive bars…but what about Christmas parades?

We know how famous and over-the-top the luxe Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is, but does NYC have an equivalent for Christmas time? We’re here to answer some questions.

Does NYC have a Christmas Parade?

Unfortunately, New York City does not have an official Christmas Parade like it does for Thanksgiving. The Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade however does incorporate some Christmas elements into its ceremony, most notably the final float of the parade which features Santa Claus on it waving hello to New Yorkers.

With that said, while there is no official Christmas Parade in NYC, we do really love a smaller iteration known as the Parade on Rockaway.

The Parade on Rockaway

The Parade on Rockaway is annual Queens tradition that brings all the Christmas cheer to Rockaway Boulevard from 130th Street to 143rd Street. The smaller (yet totally awesome) Christmas parade is part of a massive three-day celebration in the neighborhood that includes a winter village, Christmas displays, food vendors, and Santa and toy giveaways.

This year’s parade lands on December 7, 2024, so be sure to bookmark your calendar!
