Riverside Park Hosts Its First-Ever Pup Halloween Parade & Costume Contest This Weekend

Between the Tompkins Square Park Halloween Dog Parade and the New York Halloween Dog Parade & Costume Competition it’s no secret that in a city as dog-friendly as NYC is we sure do love celebrating spooky season with our pups by our side, but these aren’t the only Halloween events to bring our canine companions to! This year we New Yorkers are being treated to yet another dog parade: the Riverside Park Pup Halloween Parade.

This weekend Riverside Park Conservancy is welcoming West Side pups (and their humans, of course) to their first-ever parade and costume contest. Expected to be a howlin’ good time, the parade will kick-off at the promenade in Riverside Park by 116th Street and end at Ellington in the Park at 105th Street.

Pups of all breeds and sizes are encouraged to dress up in their most creative costumes to compete in a contest for a variety of prizes! Costume contest categories will include the following:

  • Best Overall
  • Best Small Pup
  • Best Large Pup
  • Spookiest Pup
  • Best Group
  • Best Owner & Pup Costume
  • People’s Choice Pup

Beyond the parade and contest there will also be music, special giveaways, and lots of Halloween spookiness to enjoy. Merritt Birnbaum, Riverside Park Conservancy’s President & CEO, stated:

We’re paws-itively thrilled to welcome the Riverside Park dog community to our inaugural Halloween Pup Parade! This event will give our neighborhood the opportunity to showcase its special brand of canine creativity right here at home…We can’t wait to see the adorable costumes our local pups will wear.
