When is the next full moon?

The next full moon, the Hunter’s Moon, is a supermoon that will be visible at 7:26 am ET on October 17th, according to Space.com. Per Farmer’s Almanac, it’ll occur below the horizon and those interested in sneaking a peek should wait until sunrise to see it.

What is a supermoon?

The October 2024 full moon will appear bigger and brighter, and it is referred to as a supermoon. Per Space.com, a supermoon “occurs when the full moon coincides with the moon being at the point in its orbit within 90% of its closest approach to Earth, called Perigee.”

Even better? This supermoon will appear more orange/yellow in color, which is perfectly fitting giving all of the spooky happenings taking place this October in NYC.

Where did the Hunter’s Moon 2024 get its name?

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the Hunter’s Moon — which is sometimes referred to as the Harvest Moon — received its moniker from Native American folklore that dubbed the monthly lunar phase after a hunter’s signal to gather food for the cold winter months ahead.

Are you going to set your alarm clocks accordingly? Even if you miss the first night, the pros say that the moon will appear especially large for about three days in total, so there’s time to take in la bella luna.
