An ‘Amusement Park Of Contemporary Art’ Showcasing Basquiat, Dalí, & Haring Heads To The Shed
The Shed recently announced their new 2024-2025 season features, and Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy is sure to be one of the art center‘s monumental works.
Depicting the world’s first art amusement park, the large-scale installation will feature a “riotous fun house of carnival rides and attractions by visionary artists of the 20th century.” These esteemed artists include: Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, David Hockney, Sonia Delaunay and more.
We all remember The Sheds’ Particular Matter(s), the massive spider web suspended 40 feet above ground, that wowed audiences, and Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy will be no different.
Luna Luna can be described as a “travelling amusement park of contemporary art,” deemed the website of artist and mastermind behind Luna Luna, André Heller. It originally debuted in Hamburg, Germany back in 1987. The spectacle involved rides, games, and attractions by aforementioned visionaries such as Hockney and Lichtenstein.
Yet, “a twist of fate” led the beautiful artifacts to be forgotten and sealed away for the next three decades within 44 shipping containers in the state of Texas. But now, New Yorkers will be privy to the sight of these wondrous treasures after 30+ long years.

Beyond it’s sheer magnetism, the multi-sensory experience will host tons of activations and special concerts while on view. Though the list of performing artists has yet to be announced, we do know that Drake himself is an investor in Luna Luna…
In total, it should take visitors about 75 minutes to enjoy the entire experience that will takeover The Shed’s McCourt and Level 2 Gallery.
It’s the “most fantastical fairground the world has ever known,” explains The Shed.
Tickets will be available to purchase online by the public on Thursday, September 19th. Shed members will have advanced access to tickets.
