Michelin-Starred Don Angie Team Opens New West Village Spot Specializing In Seafood

Michelin-starred Don Angie has been an Italian-American NYC gem since first opening in 2017, and now we’ll get to enjoy even more from the team as their new restaurant, San Sabino, has officially opened in the West Village!

In their newest venture, wife and husband chefs Angie Rito and Scott Tacinelli still offer mouthwatering Italian-American cuisine we’ve come to know and love at Don Angie, but this time with a focus on modern seafood dishes.

On the menu you’ll find dishes such as Crab & Mortadella Dip served alongside Ritz crackers and sweet cherry pepper jelly, Octopus Carpaccio with capocollo, garlic potatoes, and Stuffed Mussels with ‘Nduja rice and lemon aioli.

Plus, hand-made pastas are also on the menu, showcasing unexpected flavors such as Lobster Triangoli in a white vodka sauce with black garlic, Stuffed Farfalle with smoked chili crab, yellow chive and tobiko, and Pepperoni Carbonara featuring hand-rolled Ziti and Szechuan peppercorn.

And obviously we suggest finishing on a sweet note!

Dessert options include Toasted Rice Panna Cotta made with pistachio sticky rice, young coconut, and candied Sicilian pistachio, Caramelized Crespelle featuring Italian Rum crema and Key Lime, and Gelato Viennese with espresso-créme fraiche gelato, burnt hazelnut caramel, and torta caprese.

To drink, a selection of playful yet complex cocktails can be found on the menu, which incorporate savory ingredients one might not expect to find at an Italian-American restaurant such as Vietnamese basil seeds in the Mambo Italiano, a riff on a Rum Swizzle-meets-Mojito, and chicory and coconut-infused vodka in the Belmar Special, a spirit-forward espresso highball.

But, of course, Italian-American inflections such as Italian sodas and house-made amaros and liqueurs can also be found incorporated throughout some cocktails, along with a specially curated wine list.

With seating for 55, San Sabino, which owner Angie Rito tells Resy is “Playful. Fun. More American than anything,” is bright and cheery by day and dimly lit and intimate by night.

The space blends Italian high design with elements of retro nostalgia, featuring a a curved back-lit bar,  lacquered mahogany tables, round sconces, and banquette styles that mimic its next door sibling space.

Unfortunately you’ll have to wait some time before trying out the new restaurant for yourself, as they’re already booked out through the next week. But, in the meantime, you can make future reservations here

San Sabino is located at 113 Greenwich Avenue, next door to Don Angie, in the space formerly occupied by Benny’s Burritos.
