Dominique Ansel Is Bringing Cronuts To Greenwich Village

Just shy of 11 years ago on May 10, 2013, Chef Dominique Ansel released what was supposed to be a limited-time croissant donut hybrid pastry–which he dubbed the Cronut–in search of a special Mother’s Day treat, and the rest is pretty much history.

The dessert became a viral sensation within hours and three months later the bakery was bringing in lines of about 300 people per day, all with the goal of getting their hands on the sweet treat–and soon New Yorkers will be able to get one in Greenwich Village!

According to the New York PostChef Dominique Ansel has signed a fifteen-year lease to a 2,000-square-foot café and bakery at 64 University Place, a brand new luxury condo in Greenwich Village, and Cronuts will be the focal point of the menu.

The 11-story, 28-unit condo features a red brick facade, arched windows, and tiered gardens, writes 6SqFt, and it’s on track to open in the second half of this year.

“The Ansel brand has both a brick-and-mortar following and an extensive online delivery operation, so it has universal appeal,” stated Argo CEO Mark Moskowitz.

Located at 64 University Place between East 10th and 11th streets, the Greenwich Village bakery will be the third Dominique Ansel location in Manhattan.

While we (im)patiently await the new opening, you can learn some fun facts about the cronut here.
