NYC Will Experience Abnormally Warm Temperatures This Weekend
It looks like Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck are staying true to their promises of an early spring as New York City is going to experience abnormally warm temperatures this weekend.
Besides just the Super Bowl, New Yorkers can look forward to temperatures reaching the mid to high 50s this weekend, with temperatures forecasted to reach a high of 59ºF this Saturday (Feb. 10th) and 55ºF this Sunday (Feb. 11th), according to AccuWeather.
For reference, the average high for NYC in February is 43ºF.
Beyond the warmth we can also look forward to this week’s sunshine carrying through to the weekend as both Saturday and Sunday are forecasted to be party sunny.
As reported by the Staten Island Advance, Meteorologist William Churchill of the National Weather Service stated:
Temperatures are going to be about 10 to 20 degrees above normal. Those nighttime low temperatures are even more of an anomaly as they’re about 20 to 25 degrees above normal.
Churchill states that the warmer temperatures could be due to a ridge of high pressure that’s expected to shift to the east this weekend, bringing with it abnormally warmer temperatures.
Although the National Weather Service is predicting a 30% chance of rainfall on Sunday night with temperatures dropping down to a low of 42ºF, at least by that point the weekend will be mostly over (and there are tons of fun things to do in NYC on a rainy day!)
