Smash Some Gourds This Weekend At Hudson River Park’s Annual Pumpkin Smash

You may have listened to some songs by Smashing Pumpkins, but have you ever actually smashed a pumpkin? If you haven’t, well, now you can!

This weekend Hudson River Park’s fan-favorite event Pumpkin Smash is returning for some fall fun!

A sustainable way to celebrate the season, visitors will have the opportunity to, literally, smash some pumpkins–if you’ve ever thought about heading to a rage room but never had your chance to make it to one, this is the next best thing.

And we’re not just talking the old throw your pumpkin on the ground kind of smashing. We’re talking 15 whole minutes of smashing a pumpkin with your choice of a bat, hammer, or shovel.

The purpose of the annual Pumpkin Smash is to break the pumpkins into small pieces so they can be repurposed into compost in an effort to help divert seasonal organic waste from landfills. Compost provides plants with a nutrient-rich soil that promotes healthier plant beds and insulates plants during the winter by helping them retain water.

A win-win when we think about all the gorgeous parks and gardens around NYC that provide us with a greenery-filled reprise from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

Pumpkin Smash at Hudson River Park is happening this Saturday, November 4th, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Pier 84. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.

Those interested in participating are asked to bring their own pumpkins and safety goggles. Learn more here.

Looks to us like it’s another great event to add to your ultimate NYC November bucket list! Time to go big or gourd home!
