NYC is the best city in the world according to a new global index

NYC is the best city in the world according to a new global index

A new day, a new study about the greatest cities in the world and, this time around, New York comes out on top (as it should!).

The first-ever Global Cities Index, published by Oxford Economics, analyzes 1,000 of the biggest towns around the world and scores them on 27 different indicators across a variety of categories, including quality of life, environment, governance, economics, human capital and more.

The experts first ranked each town within a certain category and then combined all scores to come up with an overall, global list.

New York, the best city by overall score, topped the list followed by London and San Jose. Other American destinations to appear in the top ten are Seattle, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

When looking at specific figures, the Big Apple specifically ranks number one for economics.

“[New York] is a global hub for finance, tech, advertising, media and fashion, which explains [the] top ranking in the economics category,” reads the study. “While the city’s economy suffered more than many other American metros during the Covid-19 outbreak, it has rebounded quite strongly, and its fortunes look positive for the future.”

Our very own also came in fourth place when looking at human capital, albeit falling short in the quality of life and environment categories, points we cannot contend with.

Although New Yorkers don’t need to be told about the supremacy of the city they call home, it’s always nice to have some hard data to fall back on when out-of-towners run their mouth about our lifestyle.

We are, indeed, the very best.

Here are the top ten cities on the Oxford Economics Global Cities Index:

  1. New York, United States
  2. London, United Kingdom
  3. San Jose, United States
  4. Tokyo, Japan
  5. Paris, France
  6. Seattle, United States
  7. Los Angeles, United States
  8. San Francisco, United States
  9. Melbourne, Australia
  10. Zurich, Switzerland

Michael Imperioli of ‘The White Lotus’ just opened another swanky NYC bar

Michael Imperioli of ‘The White Lotus’ just opened another swanky NYC bar

First, we met Scarlet, the slightly moody, Art Deco beauty that debuted at 468 Amsterdam Avenue on the Upper West Side last November. Now, let’s get to know her sister, Dahlia, the brand-new uptown cocktail den owned by actor Michael Imperioli (The White Lotus, The Sopranos), his wife Victoria Imperioliwho also designed the swanky space—and restaurateur Jeremy Wladis, who’s also behind neighborhood spots like Harvest, Good Enough to Eat, Nina’s Great Burrito Bar, Big Gay Ice Cream and Fred’s.

On Tuesday, Imperioli gave his Instagram followers a sneak peek at the new lounge, which is located at 269 Columbus Avenue between 72nd and 73rd Streets.

Dahlia looks as well-dressed as its slightly older sis, with walls done up in a similarly bold hue (this time rust-orange), as well as a painted tin ceiling, white-and-black tiled floors, velvet mid-century chairs, metallic barstools and mirrored accents.

“Meet DAHLIA! Sister to SCARLET and the newest creation by VICTORIA IMPERIOLI and JEREMY WLADIS. Opening tonight for snacks and cocktails!,” the TV star announced on his social media page. “DAHLIA will be open from 5pm every night starting TONIGHT!”

The drink list features a selection of classic and original cocktails priced between $19 and $22, including the Dahlia, made with hibiscus-infused Grey Goose, Dolin Blanc vermouth, raspberry syrup and lime juice. There are also mocktails, beer and wine.

the accompanying food offerings come courtesy of the chef from Scarlet, Joey Fortunato, and it revolves around small plates: tempura shrimp tacos ($17), Saltine crab cakes ($19), a honey-truffle grilled cheese ($18) and tater tots with crème fraiche, chopped egg, fresh chives and Osetra caviar ($115).

The recent bar openings aren’t Imperioli’s first forays into New York’s food-and-drink scene. Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, the thespianwho can currently be seen opposite Jeremy Strong in the Broadway adaptation of Broadway Henrik Ibsen’s Enemy of the Peopleopened and operated the speakeasy-style lounge Ciel Rouge in Chelsea, which had a similarly sultry, red-hued atmosphere as Scarlet and where he reportedly hosted The Sopranos after parties, per The New York Times

Get free frozen hot chocolate in Rockefeller Center next week

Get free frozen hot chocolate in Rockefeller Center next week

Glace (pronounced “gloss”) caused quite a stir when it opened a year ago, thanks to its viral s’mores hot chocolates and buzzy collabs with Bad Roman. And, now, the Upper East Side ice cream and dessert shop from Sasha Zabar will no doubt be whipping up even more attention when it opens its second NYC location, a vintage-inspired truck parked by Rockefeller Center.

RECOMMENDED: The best ice cream shops in NYC, from acclaimed new parlors to old frozen faves

The new outpost—a classic American ice cream truck merged with a vintage French Citroën that serve a newly launched summer menu of frozen hot chocolate, house-made soft serves and imaginative sundaes—will debut on Thursday, May 30 at Rockefeller Center’s Center Plaza between 49th and 50th Streets.

To celebrate, the Glace team will be giving out free mini frozen hot chocolates to the first 100 customers who roll up to the new truck. (Hours of operation for the new midtown location will be daily from noon to 7pm, so plan accordingly!)

Glace’s Rockefeller Center truck will sell its popular frozen hot chocolates in flavors such as the summertime version of their viral Classic S’mores, made with “frozen” chocolate, a chocolate hard shell and a toasted marshmallow “halo,” in a choice of cup or cone; Fluffer Nutter, made with frozen hot chocolate and house-made peanut butter sauce, and the Glacier, made with frozen hot chocolate, lined with a chocolate crunch shell and topped with whipped cream.

In addition, house-made soft serve in rotating seasonal flavors such as NY Cheesecake and Swanton Strawberry made with Oxnard strawberries will be available, as well as soft-serve sundaes like the Classic Sundae (with toasted marshmallow, whipped cream and fudge), Cosmic Brownie Sundae (with your choice of ice cream, flourless brownie, whipped cream, fudge and chocolate “meteors”) and an Eton Mess Sundae (with strawberry sorbet, strawberry jam, and meringue sprinkles).

The Glace truck is the latest in summertime offerings around Rockefeller Center. The two rink level restaurants, Naro and Jupiter, recently launched all-new menus extending through early fall: think Korean fried chicken sandwiches and a Sanja Sour at Naro, or a Venetian-style spring-pea risotto and a refreshing spritz at Jupiter.

With a frozen hot chocolate to follow, it tastes like summer to us!
