4 NYC Bars Named In The World’s 50 Best Bars 2024: The 51-100 List
NYC’s bar scene is unmatched with everything from hidden bars with secret entrances and listening bars for cocktails and records to quintessential hotel bars and even a bar dating back to 1762, so we certainly weren’t surprised when 12 NYC bars landed on this year’s annual World’s 50 Best Bars list released back in April. Though that’s not all–the extended version has just been revealed, unveiling the world’s best bars ranked between 51st and 100th, and four more NYC bars found their way onto the list!
The 51-100 list includes bars spanning 35 different cities across the world, and of the 14 bars from the Americas bars from the U.S. lead the list once again. Seven bars hail from four U.S. cities including New York, though we’re in good company with our friends from Miami, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.
And New York City is home to four of the seven bars:
Dante, West Village – No.79
We’re certainly not surprised Dante made the list as they’re one of our favorites for many things–happy hour, negronis, aperol spritzes…shall we go on?! You can even get their bottled cocktails to-go!
79-81 MacDougal St.
Katana Kitten, Greenwich Village – No.80
One of our favorite cocktail bars in NYC for one-of-a-kind drinks, Katana Kitten is a Japanese cocktail bar split into an “Upstairs” and “Downstairs” depending on the vibe you’re looking for–the upstairs serves more as a lounge for sipping, and the basement is for those looking for a bit more of a rowdier experience. If you ask us, you can’t go wrong with the Shiso Gin & Tonic, made with Fords Gin, shiso, lime, and tonic, or the Panda Fizz, made with Haku vodka, pear, calpico, lemon, pandan, and lava salt.
Attaboy, LES – No.84
Attaboy, one of our favorite speakeasies, is hidden in plain sight on an obscure bit of Eldridge Street. But what’s even cooler than their hidden entrance is that they don’t even have a menu of cocktails to choose from; instead you’ll have to tell the bartender what you’re in the mood for and trust that they’ll whip up the perfect drink for you. And considering they made it onto this list we have a feeling you won’t be upset with what you get.
Employees Only, West Village – No.97
Hidden behind a psychic’s reading den is the West Village staple Employees Only. Their Prohibition-era speakeasy vibe has withstood the test of time, raking up tons of awards over the years with their daring drinks, such as their twist on a Manhattan, made with Rittenhouse Rye Stirred with Italian Vermouth, Grand Marnier, and dashes of bitters, and the Ginger Smash, made with muddled ginger root and fresh cranberries and shaken with Roku Gin, apple liqueur and fresh lemon juice.
All four bars had previously made it onto the World’s 50 Best North America bar list–Katana Kitten at No.12, Employees Only at No.15, Dante at No.20, and Attaboy at No.31. The full Worlds 50 Best Bars 51-100 list can be found here.
To determine the rankings, votes are casted by The World’s 50 Best Bars Academy, made up of 270 drink experts from the USA, Canada, Mexico, and the Caribbean. The 16th annual World’s 50 Best Bars 2024 awards ceremony will take place in Madrid this month on October 22, 2024. Bars and cocktail lovers are invited to join through The World’s 50 Best Bars Facebook page and 50 Best Bars TV channel on YouTube.
Emma Sleight, Head of Content for The World’s 50 Best Bars, stated:
