15 Acceptable Reasons To Cancel A Date In NYC…And Only In NYC

Dating in NYC is hard, but sometimes it feels like canceling a date is even harder. So if you’re trying to get out of plans you previously agreed to or you just simply don’t know how to politely decline in the first place, here are some perfect responses that are only acceptable if you live in NYC.

1. If it’s raining. We all know there’s nothing worse than the wet walk to the train, and don’t even get us started on those pricey Uber upcharges!

2. Working late. Hustle culture, what can ya do? 🤷‍♀️

3. My roommate left with the only set of keys. Living with five people in a two bedroom apart is rough!

4. MTA. No explanation needed. Whether you think you’re lying or not, it’s most likely a very legit reason.

5. If it’s in a different borough. Long distance relationships aren’t for everyone.

6. Busy.

7. The Yankees, Mets, Nets, Knicks and or Rangers lost. Don’t want to make an impression on low spirits.

8. I’m broke. Stepping outside of your apartment is just asking for credit card debt. Shhh don’t tell them there are plenty of free options.

9. You got a double park ticket, so there’s no more money left for dinner.

10. If it’s brick out. Not catching a cold for no one!

11. If it takes more than two trains to get there.

12. Exterminator needs access to my apartment—speaking of, did you know NYC is ranked the second worst U.S. city for bed bugs? 🤢

13. Santacon.

14. Someone pooped on the platform and you now lost your appetite for dinner.

15. “The medium operating out of the bodega on the corner advised my moons are not in phase.”
